GDP in the third quarter increased by 8.23%: Which industry contributed the most?

(Dan Tri) - Vietnam's economy recorded a growth rate of 8.23% in the third quarter of 2025, the second highest in the 2011-2025 period.

According to data just released by the General Statistics Office, the gross domestic product (GDP) in the third quarter of 2025 is estimated to increase by 8.23% over the same period last year. This growth rate is only lower than the 14.38% increase in the same period in 2022.

Specifically, in the industrial and construction sectors, production of many key industries increased, making important contributions to the overall growth of the entire economy .

Statistics show that the added value of the entire industry in the first 9 months of 2025 increased by 8.55% over the same period last year, contributing 35.06% to the growth rate of total added value of the entire economy.

Of which, the processing and manufacturing industry was the growth driver with a growth rate of 9.92%, contributing 31.73%. The construction industry grew by 9.33%, contributing 7.99%.

In the service sector, the added value of the service sector in the first 9 months of 2025 increased by 8.49% over the same period last year, only lower than the 11.37% increase in the same period in 2022 in the 2011-2025 period.

In this sector, wholesale and retail increased by 8.28% over the same period last year, contributing 10.72%; transportation and warehousing increased by 10.68%, contributing 8.92%; finance, banking and insurance activities increased by 7.06%, contributing 5.16%; accommodation and catering services increased by 10.15%, contributing 3.5%.

In terms of economic structure, the agriculture, forestry and fishery sector accounts for 11.3%; the industry and construction sector accounts for 37.58%; the service sector accounts for 42.92%; product taxes minus product subsidies account for 8.2%.

Other macro indicators were also positive. Specifically, the total import-export turnover of goods in the first 9 months reached 680.66 billion USD, up 17.3% over the same period. Of which, exports increased by 16%, imports increased by 18.8%. The trade balance of goods had a surplus of 16.82 billion USD.

In the first 9 months, the country had more than 231,300 newly registered and resuming businesses, an increase of 26.4%. On average, more than 25,700 new businesses were established and resuming operations each month. Meanwhile, the number of businesses withdrawing from the market averaged 19,400.

The survey results on business trends of the processing and manufacturing industry in the third quarter also showed that 40.8% of enterprises assessed that the trend would improve in the last quarter of the year. The remaining 41.7% said that production and business would be stable and 17.5% predicted difficulties.
