This morning, August 21st, in the Khe Sanh area of Sop Cop commune ( Son La province), residents discovered signs of a landslide from a nearly vertical cliff, preventing vehicles from passing through. Within minutes, a large chunk of rock fell onto National Highway 4G, kicking up a cloud of dust.

According to the Sop Cop local traffic police team, prolonged heavy rain has caused slippery road surfaces and numerous landslides, the most serious of which is at Km111 on National Highway 4G. This incident has disrupted traffic between Sop Cop commune and the center of Son La province and vice versa, affecting numerous passenger buses, trucks, and tourist itineraries.
The site is currently cordoned off by authorities, but the large volume of earth and rocks, coupled with the ongoing rain, is making recovery efforts difficult.
Authorities are urging residents and drivers to choose alternative routes, avoid the dangerous area, and strictly adhere to traffic regulations.
Earlier, at around 9:30 AM on August 20th, in Lai Chau province, a large rock unexpectedly fell from the embankment onto the asphalt road at Km73+100 of National Highway 4D (the section passing through Ban Chu Va 12, Binh Lu commune), completely blocking the lane in the direction of Lai Chau - Sa Pa (Lao Cai province), causing traffic congestion during rush hour.

Traffic Police Team No. 2 of Lai Chau Provincial Police quickly arrived at the scene, organized traffic diversion, placed warning signs, and coordinated the removal of the rocks to ensure smooth traffic flow.
At approximately 5:00 AM on August 19th, a serious landslide occurred at Km22 on Provincial Road 143 (DT.143), in Phu Long village (Pu Nhi commune), Dien Bien province, completely paralyzing the vital road connecting Pu Nhi commune with Na Son commune. On the afternoon of August 20th, landslides continued in the area. Local authorities issued an urgent warning, urging residents to avoid the landslide zone and to proactively choose alternative, safer routes.
According to the Department of Dike Management and Disaster Prevention (Ministry of Agriculture and Environment), on the evening of August 19th, a landslide involving approximately 150 cubic meters of soil and rocks occurred in Na Pe village, Bang Mac commune (Lang Son province). Fortunately, there were no casualties, but the risk of further landslides remains.
Local authorities mobilized forces to cordon off the dangerous area and urgently relocate four households from the high-risk zone.
