According to the report presented at the meeting, in the first five months of 2026, the province's socio -economic situation continued to remain stable, with many indicators achieving positive results. The province's GRDP growth reached a relatively high level; the total product in the first quarter of 2026 is estimated at over 14,569 billion VND, an increase of 9.76% compared to the same period last year, ranking 8th out of 34 provinces and cities nationwide.

The economic structure continues to shift in a positive direction, with the service sector accounting for the largest share, nearly 44%. Investment attraction activities continue to thrive as the province approves investment policies for 13 projects with a total registered capital of over 21 trillion VND; at the same time, it adjusts 8 projects with a total additional capital of 538 billion VND.
Regarding public investment, the total capital plan for 2026 was allocated at over 4,776 billion VND. By mid-May, the entire province had disbursed over 1,338 billion VND, reaching 28% of the allocated capital plan and 37.8% of the detailed allocated capital plan.
In addition, the province is focusing on removing obstacles and accelerating the progress of key projects, especially the Hoa Binh - Moc Chau expressway project, the section passing through Son La province. This is identified as a strategic infrastructure project, creating momentum to promote regional connectivity and socio-economic development of the locality in the coming time.
Local budget revenue for the first five months of 2026 is estimated at 2,210 billion VND, equivalent to 46.46% of the central government's allocated budget and 43.76% of the provincial People's Council's allocated budget.

Despite the achievements, the province still faces many difficulties and challenges. The poverty rate throughout the province is currently estimated at 9.37%, higher than the target set in Decision No. 3194/QD-UBND dated December 10, 2025, of the Provincial People's Committee. Furthermore, the risk of raw material shortages for the processing industry, fluctuations in the agricultural product market, natural disasters, and the slow progress in poverty reduction continue to be key issues analyzed by delegates at the meeting.
During the conference, leaders from various departments and agencies proposed numerous solutions to address difficulties in production and business, promote the disbursement of public investment capital, support agricultural product consumption, and improve the effectiveness of social welfare programs.
Concluding the meeting, Vice Chairman of the Provincial People's Committee Nguyen Minh Tien requested that departments and agencies continue to closely adhere to the socio-economic development goals for 2026; strengthen forecasting and address difficulties in production and business; accelerate the disbursement of public investment capital; and continue to improve the investment environment and support business development.
At the same time, it was emphasized that the focus should be on effectively implementing solutions for developing trade, services, and tourism; strengthening social welfare, vocational training, job creation, and improving the quality of education and healthcare to ensure sustainable development goals.
The Vice Chairman of the Provincial People's Committee also requested that departments and localities proactively review indicators that are still lagging behind in order to promptly implement appropriate adjustments, striving to achieve the highest possible results in the socio-economic development goals set for 2026.
