How to cook simple sour snakehead fish soup

0.7 kg cleaned snakehead fish, 200g bean sprouts, 200g okra, 1/2 pineapple, tomatoes, ripe tamarind, mint leaves (elephant ear), garlic, shallots, chili, coriander, stewed vegetables and spices.

Raw material preparation

Clean the snakehead fish, scrape off the scales and wash with salt water to remove the slime and reduce the fishy smell. You can use lemon or vinegar to wash the fish. Then rinse with water and cut into small, bite-sized pieces.

Wash and cut tomatoes into wedges. Peel, wash and slice pineapple. Peel and wash mint, cut into bite-sized pieces. Wash and cut okra into pieces. Wash and chop coriander and watercress.

Peel and mince garlic and onion. Wash and slice fresh chili. Wash and drain tamarind.

How to cook sour snakehead fish soup

Place the pan on the stove and add a little cooking oil. Wait for the oil to heat up, then add the chopped onion and garlic and sauté until fragrant. When fragrant, add the tomato wedges and sauté for a few minutes. When the tomatoes are slightly soft, use a ladle to mash them to make the soup more colorful.

Next, add the pineapple and stir for a few minutes, then add enough water (depending on the number of people). Wait for the water to boil, add the snakehead fish and continue cooking until done.

While waiting for the fish to cook, you should take the time to make tamarind. Ripe tamarind, peel off the skin, mash it with boiling water, filter the water. Wait for the fish to cook, then add the tamarind juice.

Next, add the prepared okra, bean sprouts, and mint to the pot of soup. Bring to a boil again and season with salt, seasoning powder, and sugar to taste. Finally, add the coriander and stewed vegetables to the pot of soup and turn off the stove. Thus, you have a hot bowl of snakehead fish soup for your family meal.
