Ingredients for making sour fish soup with snakehead fish

0.7 kg cleaned snakehead fish, 200g bean sprouts, 200g okra, 1/2 pineapple, tomatoes, ripe tamarind, mint leaves, garlic, shallots, chili peppers, sawtooth coriander, culantro, and various spices.

Pre-processing the ingredients

Clean the snakehead fish, scrape off the scales, and rinse it with salt water to remove the slime and reduce the fishy smell. You can also use lemon or vinegar to rinse the fish. Then rinse it thoroughly with water and cut it into small, bite-sized pieces.

Wash the tomatoes and cut them into wedges. Peel and wash the pineapple, then slice it thinly. Peel and wash the mint, then cut it into bite-sized pieces. Wash the okra and cut it into sections. Wash the sawtooth coriander and culantro, then chop them finely.

Peel and finely chop the garlic and onions. Wash and thinly slice the fresh chili peppers. Wash and drain the tamarind.

How to cook sour fish soup with snakehead fish

Heat a pan on the stove and add some cooking oil. Once the oil is hot, add the chopped onions and garlic and sauté until fragrant. When the aroma is released, add the sliced ​​tomatoes and stir-fry for a few minutes. When the tomatoes are slightly soft, mash them with a ladle to give the broth a nicer color.

Next, add the pineapple and stir for a few minutes, then pour in enough water (depending on the number of people). Once the water boils, add the snakehead fish and continue cooking until done.

While waiting for the fish to cook, you should quickly prepare the tamarind paste. Take ripe tamarind fruits, peel them, mash them with boiling water, and strain the liquid. Once the fish is cooked, add the tamarind liquid to the fish.

Next, add the prepared okra, bean sprouts, and mint to the soup pot. Bring to a boil again, then season with salt, seasoning powder, and sugar to taste. Finally, add the sawtooth coriander and culantro to the soup and turn off the heat. Now you have a hot bowl of snakehead fish soup for your family meal. A delicious snakehead fish sour soup will have a harmonious and appealing balance of sour, spicy, salty, and sweet flavors.
