In the design of a washing machine, the drum is like a basin for washing clothes. Therefore, regularly cleaning the drum helps extend the lifespan of the washing machine and preserve the durability of your clothes.

Nowadays, washing machines all have a drum cleaning mode combined with specialized cleaning products, making this process easy and convenient.

The drum cleaning mode refers to the process by which the washing machine automatically cleans itself of dirt, soap residue, fabric softener, and bacteria.

How to properly use the washing machine drum cleaning mode - 1

Regular cleaning of the washing machine drum helps extend the lifespan of the washing machine and preserve the durability of your clothes.

Why use the washing machine drum cleaning mode?

Every day, clothes accumulate a lot of bacteria and dirt from the surrounding environment and are put into the washing machine to clean them. However, over time, the washing machine drum also becomes a breeding ground for bacteria due to detergent residue, fabric softener residue, hair, etc.

These impurities will stick to the washing machine walls and drain pipes, in ways that are difficult to see with the naked eye. Many people close the washing machine door after removing clothes, causing the drum to remain damp and not dry properly. This creates a favorable environment for bacteria to multiply.

If a washing machine is in this condition for an extended period, its washing performance will decrease, clothes will not be clean, and they will have an unpleasant odor. Even more seriously, it can cause allergies and dermatitis, affecting people's health.

How to use the washing machine drum cleaning mode

Nowadays, washing machines are designed with a drum cleaning mode. Users can clean their washing machines with just a few simple steps.

First, turn on the washing machine and activate the drum cleaning mode on the control panel. Depending on the type of washing machine, this mode will have a different name on the control panel.

Many modern washing machines use hot water (60-100 degrees Celsius) in their cleaning mode to kill bacteria.

After starting the washing machine, you can use specialized cleaning agents or lemon juice and vinegar to clean it. Using these supporting products helps enhance the cleaning of bacteria and dirt accumulated inside the washing machine.

After the cleaning process is complete, the washing machine drum will be clean, and users can continue washing and drying clothes as usual. For older washing machines that do not have a drum cleaning mode, users can use the soaking mode instead. Set the water level to the highest setting and press the wash cycle as usual.

To keep the washing machine drum clean, we should clean it once a month.

Things to keep in mind when cleaning the washing machine drum.

- Cleaning the washing machine drum takes quite a long time, usually over 2 hours. Therefore, you should activate the drum cleaning mode on weekends. In addition, you need to regularly wipe down the washing machine door, scrub the detergent and fabric softener dispensers, and clean the rubber seal.

- For best results, use specialized detergents. Avoid using bleach, as improper use can damage the washing machine drum and harm your clothes.

- Leaving the washing machine lid open after the drum cleaning process is complete will allow the drum to dry naturally, reducing the risk of mold and mildew.
