From January 1st, 2025, the Law on Road Traffic Order and Safety officially comes into effect. Notably, Article 58 adds a provision for deducting points from driver's licenses.
The points system for a driver's license is used to manage drivers' compliance with traffic safety laws and regulations on roads, based on a road traffic safety database system, and includes 12 points.
The number of points deducted for each violation depends on the nature and severity of the violation of traffic safety regulations.
Data regarding the points deducted from a driver's license for traffic violations will be updated in the database system immediately after the penalty decision takes effect and the person whose points have been deducted will be notified.
To track their driver's license points, citizens need to install the VNeID application on their phones and upgrade their electronic identity account to level 2.
Next, users integrate their driver's license into their VNeID account. Once successfully integrated, users access the application, select the driver's license section, and enter the 6-digit passcode they previously set.
The application will display the integrated driver's license types, including information such as license number, issue date, issuer, expiration date, and remaining points.
If no points have been deducted from your driver's license, you will see 12 points displayed.
At the same time, citizens can track their driver's license point history. Specifically, this includes the number of points deducted, the unit that processed the violation, the date of the processing, and the decision on the penalty.
Additionally, the VNeID application allows citizens to integrate their vehicle registration papers and present relevant driver and vehicle documents to traffic police for inspection through the app.
