
The Ministry of Health requests the Departments of Health, Food Safety Departments, and Food Safety Sub-departments of provinces and cities to monitor milk products and nutritional products for young children.
According to the Food Safety Administration, on May 2nd, the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) announced that A2 Milk Company voluntarily recalled three batches of a2 Platinum Premium USA infant formula, powdered with added iron, for infants aged 0-12 months (a2 Platinum Premium infant formula 0-12 months Milk-based powder with Iron).
The reason for recalling this milk product is the detection of cereulide, a heat-stable toxin produced by certain strains of Bacillus cereus bacteria. These strains can be harmful to young children.
The recalled product batches are 31.7-ounce tins sold in the United States with the following specific information: Batch 2210269454, expiry date 15/7/2026; Batch 2210324609, expiry date 21/1/2027; Batch 2210321712, expiry date 15/1/2027.
Monitoring of infant formula and nutritional products for young children.
To ensure consumer health, the Food Safety Department requests the Departments of Health , Food Safety Departments, and Food Safety Sub-departments of provinces and cities to urgently review the registration and self-declaration of a2 Platinum Premium USA infant formula, powder form with added iron, for infants aged 0-12 months, manufactured by A2 Milk Company.
Simultaneously, work with the company that announced the a2 Platinum Premium USA infant formula product for infants aged 0-12 months, in powder form with added iron (if applicable), requesting the company to notify distributors and consumers to stop using the product and proceed with the recall as recommended by the manufacturer; report (quantity imported, quantity sold, quantity remaining) and propose measures to handle the product batches based on the recall information.
In addition, proactively develop a plan for sampling and monitoring products circulating in the market. This includes monitoring milk products and nutritional products for young children; promptly recalling and issuing warnings when products are found to be substandard to prevent food safety incidents.
Specifically, information should be disseminated to consumers so that they do not use any batches of a2 Platinum Premium USA infant formula products for infants aged 0-12 months.
The Food Safety Department requires the above units to report the results of their handling of the issue to the Department before May 18th.
Regarding the management of food businesses on e-commerce platforms, Mr. Chu Quoc Thinh, Acting Director of the Food Safety Department, stated that the department has requested the Department of E-commerce and Digital Economy, Ministry of Industry and Trade , to notify e-commerce platforms and websites to coordinate with store owners and distributors to require them to stop selling any batches of milk products currently circulating in Vietnam, and to remove information about substandard products and handle them according to the law (if any).
