In recent times, the prevention and control of property theft in communes and wards throughout the province has seen positive progress. The police force has proactively implemented various operational measures to prevent, attack, and suppress crime. However, the situation regarding property theft remains complex and accounts for a high percentage of social order crimes, causing public concern. In particular, motorcycle theft frequently occurs in homes, boarding houses, schools, etc., due to the negligence and complacency of some residents, creating opportunities for criminals to commit their crimes.
On August 2nd, the Long Kien Commune Police arrested Tran Van Quai, residing in My Phu Hamlet, Long Kien Commune, for stealing a motorbike in the area and selling it in An Phu Ward ( Ho Chi Minh City). Based on Quai's confession, the Long Kien Commune Police quickly went to the location and recovered the stolen motorbike.
Previously, on July 22nd and 23rd, at Thanh Tuyen guesthouse in Tay Khanh 4 hamlet and Nhu Ngoc guesthouse in Dong An 6 hamlet, Long Xuyen ward, thieves broke in and stole two motorcycles worth approximately 70 million VND. The perpetrators took advantage of the fact that the tenants did not lock the gate, the motorcycles were left unattended in the hallway, and no anti-theft GPS tracking devices were installed, allowing them to sneak in and steal the vehicles.
Recently, through professional investigative measures, the Long Xuyen Ward Police quickly apprehended Nguyen Thanh Cong, residing in Dong Thinh 7 Hamlet, Long Xuyen Ward, after Cong committed four motorcycle thefts between July 5th and July 20th. The suspect had just been placed in compulsory drug rehabilitation by the Long Xuyen Ward Police.
Lieutenant Colonel Huynh Thanh Dao, Head of Long Kien Commune Police, stated: “Most motorcycle thefts share a common characteristic: people are complacent and lack vigilance, creating opportunities for thieves to commit crimes. To ensure the smooth maintenance of security and order in the area, especially after the local merger and stabilization, the commune police force actively disseminates information about criminal tactics to the people; focuses on increasing patrols to ensure security and order in the area; and coordinates with professional departments to investigate and strictly punish those who steal property.”
Based on recent incidents in the area, to effectively prevent and combat motorcycle theft, in addition to strengthening prevention and combat efforts by the police force, the most important thing is for each citizen to raise their awareness and vigilance in protecting their own property and preventing theft. According to Lieutenant Colonel Vo Van Chinh - Head of Long Xuyen Ward Police, to proactively prevent and combat this type of crime, the ward police inform households, boarding houses, and schools in the ward about the methods and tactics used by criminals. They proactively prevent theft, organize security forces, and strictly protect against criminals to prevent them from operating. When people spot suspicious individuals, they should immediately notify the ward police for timely coordinated action.”
Furthermore, all levels of government, sectors, and citizens need to raise their sense of responsibility in participating in the fight against crime. Each citizen needs to increase their vigilance and take measures to protect their property, parking vehicles in easily observable locations, near their workplaces, and locking their steering wheels and wheels carefully; they should not be complacent and create opportunities for criminals to exploit loopholes to commit theft.
