On May 24th, many parents in Ho Chi Minh City, especially those with children about to take the 10th grade entrance exam, reported to Tuoi Tre Online that they had received calls from unknown numbers requesting their children's personal identification numbers and electronic application codes. Parents suspect these are scam calls.
Ms. Le Thi Kim (Phu Nhuan Ward, Ho Chi Minh City) recounted: "I received a strange phone call. The caller introduced themselves as a teacher from the school and requested that I provide my child's electronic record number to upload to EnetViet because they no longer use paper report cards and need to complete the application for the 10th grade entrance exam."
I was suspicious because they only asked about the school close to the exam date. The person on the other end stammered and hung up.
Similarly, receiving calls from numerous unknown numbers, the parent association of a junior high school in Tan Dinh ward was also in a state of panic. Most of these were parents whose children were preparing for the entrance exam to grade 10.
In addition, some parents of students at other educational levels were also asked by "school representatives" to provide their identification numbers, codes that had just been sent via phone, etc., in order to complete their students' records.
On May 24th, in an interview with Tuoi Tre Online , Ms. Nguyen Doan Trang, Principal of Tran Van On Secondary School (Tan Dinh Ward, Ho Chi Minh City), stated that she was aware of information regarding parents receiving numerous calls from individuals claiming to be "teachers of the school," requesting parents to provide their electronic record numbers, identification numbers, etc.
"Last week, I promptly informed the homeroom teachers, especially those of students preparing for the 10th grade entrance exam, to urgently disseminate this information to parents. Homeroom teachers will be the ones directly contacting parents regarding any information that may be available. Therefore, any calls requesting such information are scams."
"The application process and procedures for students participating in the 10th grade entrance exam have been completed a long time ago on the common system," Ms. Trang emphasized.
To avoid scams, all information is communicated through the school's official channels.
According to the leaders of the Ho Chi Minh City Department of Education and Training, with only a few days left until the 10th grade entrance exam, any calls requesting information about supplementing application documents are scams.
"All parents and students should be highly vigilant and not listen to or follow instructions from unknown phone numbers. Absolutely keep personal information confidential and do not post it on social media. All information will be communicated through the school's official channels and directly to parents and students via homeroom teachers," a department leader told Tuoi Tre Online.
