Capello criticizes Inter: 'Too slow and lacking in creativity'

The 1-2 defeat at Meazza against Bodo Glimt not only eliminated Inter Milan from the Champions League play-offs but also sparked a wave of fierce criticism. After two legs, the Serie A representatives lost 2-5 on aggregate. For a team that reached the final last season, this outcome is a significant and unacceptable setback.

Fabio Capello did not hide his disappointment. The former Italian coach frankly stated that Inter were too slow in every aspect of their game. According to him, the Nerazzurri lacked speed, the ability to create breakthroughs, and almost no genuine one-on-one situations.

“I found Inter too slow in their play. They tried to attack through the middle but it wasn't effective. What caught my attention was that nobody could dribble past opponents. There were no one-on-one situations, no breakthroughs, very few changes of direction,” Capello emphasized after the match.

In the first half, Inter frequently attacked down the right wing. However, their attacks lacked lethality. Capello believed Federico Dimarco could be a surprise attacking threat, but he wasn't positioned to utilize his acceleration and ability to change direction. The lack of options to change the tempo left Inter frustrated against a cautious and disciplined Bodo Glimt side.

Capello also pointed out that the turning point came too late. He commented that the game only really changed when Sucic came on, but by then Inter were already in a difficult position.

“Inter didn’t play with the pace needed to beat a team like Bodo. When Sucic came on, things brightened up, but it was too late,” he added.

Being eliminated with an aggregate score of 2-5 is a major blow to Inter's ambitions. From being runners-up last season to being knocked out in the play-off round, that gap is enough to raise many questions. It's not just about tactics, but also about tempo, boldness, and the ability to make a difference in crucial moments.
