Coach Carlo Ancelotti has honored his contract with Real Madrid and is committed to the Bernabeu team until the end of the 2023/24 season. According to FIFA regulations, a player or coach can only commit to a new team in the last 6 months of the contract. This means that Coach Ancelotti cannot officially sign a contract with the CBF before January 1, 2024.
Ancelotti's experience could help Brazil.
The CBF pursued the Italian coach after Tite left the Brazilian team at the end of 2022. The failure of the "Selecao" at the World Cup in Qatar caused the Brazilian coach to lose his position. Ancelotti became a strong candidate but he repeatedly affirmed that he would respect his contract with Real.
The appointment of coach Ancelotti has been criticized by former Brazilian players. Cafu and Rivaldo opposed the idea of choosing a foreign coach for the national team. While waiting for Ancelotti to arrive, Brazilian media revealed that CBF has chosen Fernando Diniz as the interim coach of the national team. He will take on both the roles of coach of Fluminense and the Brazilian national team. Coach Diniz will be in charge of the national team when the "Selecao" plays on FIFA Days. CBF agreed to pay a sum of money to convince Fluminense to release him.
Brazil's next matches are in September in the 2026 World Cup qualifiers, against Bolivia and Peru respectively.
