Casemiro is playing for Manchester United. |
It turns out that “Casemiro” – the name that has become synonymous with Real Madrid and now Manchester United – was never his real name. In a recent interview, the Brazilian midfielder revealed a truth that surprised fans.
“My name is Carlos Henrique Casimiro, with an I, not an E,” he told One Football. “It was a mistake… but it stuck with me for life.”
Casemiro recalls that when he was playing for São Paulo, the team mistakenly printed his name on his shirt, changing Casimiro to Casemiro. But instead of asking for a change, the young midfielder decided to keep it as is: “I played extremely well in that match. And I’m superstitious, so I said: ‘Let’s leave it like that, everything is going well’.”
That small mistake turned out to be a blessing in disguise, and “Casemiro” quickly became a global brand – a name associated with a host of titles, from the Champions League to the Copa America.
Now 33, the Brazilian midfielder laughs as he recalls the “spelling error” that has accompanied him for more than a decade: “My real name is Carlos Henrique Casimiro. But the name Casemiro... stayed forever.”
One wrong letter - and a legend is written.
