Gianh Bridge is completely congested after Tet!

(NLĐO) - The sight of long lines of cars inching along National Highway 1 through Quang Binh is becoming a nightmare after every Tet holiday.

A long line of vehicles stretches along National Highway 1 through Quang Binh.

According to observations by reporters from the Nguoi Lao Dong newspaper, the volume of vehicles traveling on National Highway 1 in the North-South direction through Quang Binh province increased dramatically after the Lunar New Year, especially at the Gianh Bridge "bottleneck," causing prolonged localized traffic congestion at many times.

On the afternoon and evening of February 3rd (the 6th day of the Lunar New Year, Year of the Snake), thousands of cars moved slowly along this stretch of road. The line of vehicles stretched for kilometers, especially at Gianh Bridge - a persistent bottleneck on the vital North-South highway.

The main reason is that National Highway 1, which originally had 4 lanes, was narrowed to only 2 lanes for motor vehicles when it reached Gianh Bridge. When the volume of vehicles increased dramatically, moving across the bridge became difficult, leading to prolonged traffic congestion.

Vehicles crawled along slowly, many drivers impatient but patiently staying in their lanes. Traffic police worked hard to regulate traffic, but under the overwhelming pressure, the congestion persisted, turning the journey back to the South after Tet into an exhausting ordeal.

According to the Quang Binh Traffic Police, the cause of the congestion is that it coincides with the end of the Lunar New Year holiday, when many people travel by car back to Ho Chi Minh City and other southern provinces to prepare for work and study, increasing traffic pressure.

Observations on National Highway 1 from Dong Hoi City to Quang Trach District show that despite the difficult traffic conditions, drivers are still complying well with traffic laws. There is no lane encroachment or excessive honking to overtake, helping to maintain traffic order even at relatively slow speeds...

The scene of severe traffic congestion on National Highway 1 through Quang Binh before and after Tet has become a nightmare for residents and drivers.

Traffic accidents make traffic jams even worse.

Notably, at approximately 3:30 PM on the same day, a serious traffic accident occurred on National Highway 1, in the section passing through Quang Xuan commune, Quang Trach district. A passenger bus belonging to Hung Long bus company collided with another vehicle, resulting in one fatality at the scene. This incident further exacerbated the traffic congestion, forcing vehicles to move on only a single lane, affecting traffic for kilometers.

Earlier that morning, a prolonged traffic jam also occurred on National Highway 1, heading south-north, specifically on the section through Ly Hoa Pass in Bo Trach district. Rain made the road slippery, causing a passenger bus to lose control, crash into the concrete median, and block almost the entire road. This incident forced vehicles behind it to slow down, resulting in a traffic jam that lasted for several hours.
