At a flower stall on Ngo Quyen Street (Hai Duong City), a novel type of plant pot has appeared. It has a base at the bottom and a pot for planting flowers or ornamental plants on top, connected by a chain. From a distance, it looks like the plant pot is floating in mid-air.
According to Ms. Vuong Yen Ngoc, the shop owner, this is the first year she has imported this type of pot for sale. Each pot base costs between 800,000 and 900,000 VND. Depending on the customer's requirements and preferences, she can plant suitable trees such as kumquats, yellow apricot blossoms, red apricot blossoms, etc., or a single base can hold two pots with two different types of trees.

The price of a chain-suspended bonsai pot ranges from 1.2 to 2 million VND, depending on the type.
Floating bonsai trees have been around for about a decade, originating from Japan. Japanese bonsai enthusiasts created a special magnetic bonsai pot that self-balances in the air. The base is made of ceramic with powerful magnets inside and a rotating mechanism. The soil ball also incorporates magnets inside with the opposite polarity to the base's magnets.

However, Japanese-style floating bonsai is difficult and expensive, especially for non-professional customers, so bonsai enthusiasts in Vietnam have creatively replaced magnets with chains strong enough to hold the pot securely. This style is suitable for small, tabletop bonsai pots.
