A Dutch sculptor named Frederick (54 years old) and his family have long lived in seclusion in the town of Lauriano, on the outskirts of Turin, Italy. Recently, during a surprise inspection, local authorities unexpectedly discovered the poor quality of life that Mr. Frederick's two children had to endure.

The two children, a 9-year-old boy and a 7-year-old girl, have been living in social isolation for many years, with no contact with the outside world . Mr. Frederick still keeps them isolated at home, citing the fear of them contracting Covid-19.

The two children grew up in fear of the outside world. Mr. Frederick homeschooled them, but when the authorities tested the children's abilities, both were illiterate and lacked even the most basic skills of hygiene and self-care.

Local authorities determined that the two children were severely neglected by their parents. Therefore, they placed the two children in need of urgent care and support from the authorities.

The children's mother, a 38-year-old Moroccan woman, did not react when the authorities took her children away.

As for the sculptor Frederick, he affirmed that he loved his children very much and only wanted to protect them. He liked the isolated life and wanted to spend more time with his family, so he decided to let the whole family live together in seclusion like that.

Lauriano Mayor Mara Bacolla said authorities would work to help the two children find balance and have a more meaningful life in the coming years.
