The forecast for durian prices on May 23, 2024 shows a slight downward trend, an adjustment compared to yesterday. Prices may vary depending on the time and region.

Durian prices are highest in the Southwestern region of Vietnam and lowest in the Southeastern region and the Central Highlands.

The price of durian at the farm will be lower by 3,000 - 5,000 VND/kg depending on how traders buy it, whether they buy in bulk or select individual fruits.

Previously, on May 22nd, the prices of durian at the farm were as follows: Ri6 durian at 71,000 – 84,000 VND/kg; Thai durian at 102,000 – 104,000 VND/kg; Musangking durian at 105,000 – 110,000 VND/kg.

In the Southwestern region of Vietnam: High-quality Ri6 durian is priced at 85,000 - 88,000 VND/kg, while lower-quality Ri6 durian is priced at 70,000 - 88,000 VND/kg; high-quality Thai durian is priced at 113,000 - 115,000 VND/kg; and lower-quality Thai durian is priced at 93,000 - 95,000 VND/kg.

In the Southeast region: The price of high-quality Ri6 durian is 71,000 - 74,000 VND/kg, while the price for lower-quality Ri6 durian is 60,000 - 70,000 VND/kg; high-quality Thai durian is priced at 110,000 - 113,000 VND/kg; meanwhile, lower-quality Thai durian stands at 95,000 - 100,000 VND/kg.

In the Central Highlands region: The price of high-quality Ri6 durian is 70,000 - 72,000 VND/kg, while the price for lower-quality Ri6 durian is 65,000 - 70,000 VND/kg; high-quality Thai durian is priced at 100,000 - 102,000 VND/kg; meanwhile, lower-quality Thai durian is priced at 80,000 - 88,000 VND/kg.

With durian harvesting season underway, Chinese businesses are busy importing goods from Thailand, Vietnam, and the Philippines to meet the surging demand in the billion-person market.

Durian has become a trendy fruit in China in the last few years. To meet the growing demand, Chinese businesses have gone to Thailand and Vietnam to sign contracts with farm owners to stabilize the supply and ensure quality.

Naturally ripened durian is delicious, so Chinese businesses are pushing to sell branded durian. Chinese consumers are now more discerning; durian must be fresh and tasty for them to buy it.

Chinese businesses are very interested in buying Ri6 durian from Vietnam. They hope that, in addition to importing delicious Ri6 durian from Vietnam, the low price will be a key factor in encouraging Chinese importers to bring in large quantities for sale in rural areas.

Regarding building a unique brand for their farms, Thailand's growing regions have surpassed Vietnam, and they also have a more extensive distribution system in China than Vietnam. In supermarkets in Beijing, the price of 1 kg of Thai moonthong ranges from 190,000 to 210,000 VND/kg. Vietnamese Ri6 moonthong costs 150,000 to 160,000 VND/kg. Prices have remained relatively unchanged compared to last year.

Durian is a popular gift item among Chinese people because it's heavily promoted as a prized fruit with health benefits. Therefore, it's not uncommon to see crowds scrambling to buy durian in China.
