Over the years, Lang Son province has always paid special attention to people with meritorious services and their families, through many practical policies, thereby expressing deep gratitude for their great contributions and sacrifices in the cause of national liberation and defense of the Fatherland.
Providing comprehensive care for the lives of those who have rendered meritorious service.
For many years, Mr. Duong Cong Thich (born in 1954), residing in Hong Vi village, Vu Le commune, Lang Son province, has consistently received annual care benefits for war veterans as stipulated by the State. During holidays, Tet (Lunar New Year), and the War Invalids and Martyrs Day on July 27th, the local authorities always organize visits to encourage and support him and his family.
Mr. Thich shared that he enlisted in the army in 1972. During his time in the military, he participated in the Central Highlands Campaign in 1973 and continued fighting in the Northeast Cambodian battlefield in 1979. After being discharged and returning to his hometown, he was affected by Agent Orange, resulting in a 15% disability. His illnesses often recur during changes in weather, making life difficult. At over 70 years old, he also suffers from several underlying health conditions such as high blood pressure, high cholesterol, and diabetes.
Nevertheless, with the spirit of a soldier of Uncle Ho's army, he always strived to overcome illness and difficulties, lived a exemplary life, and strictly adhered to the Party's guidelines and policies, and the laws of the State in the locality.
Similarly, Mr. Duong Minh Vu (born in 1954), residing in Quan Trung village, Vu Le commune, Lang Son province, also suffered from chemical poisoning during the war, resulting in a 35% disability. After enlisting in the army in 1972, he participated in combat in the Quang Tri battlefield. The lingering effects of chemical poisoning have caused his health to deteriorate, frequently leading to shortness of breath, memory loss, and significantly impacting his daily life.
Thanks to the attention of the Party, the State, and the local government, every year, those who have rendered meritorious services to the revolution in Lang Son province are organized to receive convalescence at the Provincial Center for the Care of Meritorious People. During each convalescence period, wounded soldiers, sick soldiers, and those who have rendered meritorious services receive health check-ups, treatment consultations, participate in cultural and sports activities, and visit historical revolutionary sites inside and outside the province.
During holidays, Tet (Lunar New Year), and the War Invalids and Martyrs Day on July 27th, those who rendered meritorious service to the revolution always receive attention, visits, encouragement, and gifts from the Party committee, government, and local people. This care not only contributes to improving their material and spiritual lives but also somewhat alleviates the pain, loss, and lingering illnesses they carry after the war.

Most people who rendered meritorious services to the revolution in Lang Son province clearly feel the care, encouragement, and support from the Party, the State, and the local government for the sacrifices and losses they experienced in fighting and contributing for the independence and freedom of the nation. Many expressed satisfaction with the practical care policies and hoped to continue receiving attention and support to stabilize their lives and improve their health.
Mr. Cao Xuan Thuy, Director of the Lang Son Provincial Center for the Care of War Veterans, said that the Center organizes many rehabilitation programs for war veterans annually. During these programs, war veterans receive health screenings, health consultations, nutritional support, guidance on appropriate exercise and training, and prescribed medication. In addition, the Center provides physical therapy and rehabilitation services such as massage, electrotherapy, and herbal steam baths; and coordinates cultural, artistic, and sports activities, as well as visits to historical sites. Through each rehabilitation program, the health and morale of war veterans improve, contributing to a better quality of life.
Spreading the principle of "Drinking water, remember the source."
In 2025, Lang Son province effectively implemented the Party and State's guidelines and policies for people who have rendered meritorious services to the revolution. The province disbursed allowances to 41,018 people who have rendered meritorious services and their relatives, totaling nearly 25 billion VND; and received and processed over 1,300 dossiers related to benefits and policies for people who have rendered meritorious services and their relatives who participated in the resistance war. The province also advised on the issuance of a program to visit, extend New Year greetings, and deliver gifts from the President to policy beneficiaries, with a total budget of over 8.3 billion VND.
In addition, the province regularly organizes visits, gift-giving, incense and flower offerings on major holidays and the Day of War Invalids and Martyrs; and implements many activities to express gratitude to those who have contributed to the revolution. Relevant units also coordinate in reviewing, checking, and verifying information on martyrs and their graves, and carrying out the recognition of martyrs according to regulations. During the year, the entire province organized 11 rehabilitation sessions for 607 delegates, including management officials and those who have contributed to the revolution, contributing to improving the material and spiritual lives of policy beneficiaries.
According to Mr. Nguyen Van Giang, Deputy Director of the Department of Internal Affairs of Lang Son province, from the beginning of 2026 until now, the province has continued to implement many activities to care for people who have rendered meritorious services to the revolution and their families, such as visiting, giving gifts, and organizing trips for people who have rendered meritorious services to revisit former battlefields. The province has received and organized rehabilitation for 161 people who have rendered meritorious services and relatives of martyrs; and at the same time, implemented 4 concentrated rehabilitation sessions for 222 people who have rendered meritorious services and relatives of martyrs.
The Department of Internal Affairs also advised on the renovation and repair of the martyrs' cemetery in Lang Son at Truong Son Martyrs' Cemetery and Bong Lau Cemetery. The province disbursed monthly preferential allowances to 13,239 people with meritorious service and their relatives with a total budget of over 41.3 billion VND, of which the payment rate through bank accounts reached 67.6%. The province also received and processed nearly 1,000 dossiers related to people with meritorious service, their relatives, and those who participated in the resistance war.

In the coming period, Lang Son will continue to improve the effectiveness of implementing preferential policies for people with meritorious services through organizing training for civil servants in charge of this field; building, renovating, and upgrading memorial monuments for martyrs in the province, from 2026 to 2030; and maintaining full payment of benefits and policies, and organizing centralized rehabilitation for people with meritorious services to the revolution and relatives of martyrs. These practical activities demonstrate gratitude, responsibility, and the moral principle of "drinking water, remembering the source" towards those who have contributed and sacrificed for the independence and freedom of the nation.
