Data analysts and hair experts at HairCoSys have designed an application that uses proprietary artificial intelligence algorithms to analyze users' head photos, thereby determining the condition of their hair and scalp before suggesting appropriate treatment solutions.
“The idea for HairCoSys came about during the Covid-19 outbreak when I noticed my friend’s hair loss problem through selfies after dinner,” said founder and CEO Michael Wong.
HairCoSys's application can perform hair and scalp assessments using an iPad and handheld lens. This technology utilizes patented algorithms that can calculate the number and measure the thickness of hair strands in specific areas of the scalp using microscopic images.
This quantitative data will be analyzed by AI to assess the current health status of the hair and scalp, before suggesting appropriate solutions or care products.
HairCoSys' AI model was trained on a dataset of over one million hair images, and the company also received academic research support through the Hong Kong University of Science and Technology's Entrepreneurship Centre and City University of Hong Kong's Tech 300.
HairCoSys aims to integrate its AI technology with various related segments, including hairdressing, shampooing, hair care products, and beauty establishments, creating a comprehensive hair care ecosystem.
To date, more than 3,000 hair salons and hair and scalp care centers have used the HairCoSys app. A company representative stated that they are aiming to release a mobile version after the upcoming Lunar New Year.
“The team plans to launch a mobile app for individual users after the Lunar New Year, so that people can receive personalized analysis and be equipped to make informed decisions about their hair care,” CEO Wong revealed.
Consumer apps can help users regularly check and monitor the condition of their hair at home, as well as receive recommendations for hair products and treatments.
Wong said HairCoSys plans to expand into the Greater Bay Area, as well as Malaysia and Thailand, to distribute its hair products retail next year.
The company will showcase its technology at the Consumer Electronics Show in Las Vegas in January, hoping to attract attention to the North American and European markets.
