On January 27th, Dr. Nguyen Minh Tien, Deputy Director of the City Children's Hospital, said that child D. was admitted to the hospital with severe pain and significant bleeding in the left heel. The child received emergency treatment to stop the bleeding, intravenous fluids, and X-rays revealed no fracture. The patient was then transferred for surgery to treat the injury.
Baby D. suffered a ruptured Achilles tendon in her left foot; the wounds on her 3rd and 4th toes were debrided and sutured to repair the Achilles tendon.
The medical team noted that the child had suffered partial crushing of the Achilles tendon and soft tissue damage to the palmar surface of the 3rd and 4th toes of the left foot. Doctors cleaned the wound, repaired the Achilles tendon, and sutured the wounds of the 3rd and 4th toes of the left foot. The child was given a tetanus shot and pain medication.
Previously, at the end of December 2023, the Ho Chi Minh City Orthopedic and Trauma Hospital admitted a 5-year-old girl, LPO, from Tra Vinh , whose arm was severed due to a motorbike accident.
According to the medical history, O. was riding on the back of a motorbike driven by her mother in Tra Vinh. At the time, she was wearing a jacket, but one sleeve was tucked into her arm, while the other sleeve hung down. During the ride, the hanging sleeve got caught in the motorbike, causing her to fall and simultaneously severing her right arm.
Based on the above cases, Dr. Tien advises parents to carefully instruct their children to keep their feet in the correct, safe position on the bicycle, avoiding putting their feet into the spokes, which could cause unfortunate accidents. In addition, parents should pay attention to their children's clothing, avoiding situations where clothes get caught in the spokes, which is extremely dangerous.
