Economic efficiency, less risk
In the past 2 years, 200 farming households in Ben Tam ward and the communes of Dai Son, Mao Dien, and Bac An Phu have raised 2 chicken breeds, RTL132 and RTRT 123, according to the biosafety farming model. Raised in this direction, the chickens have delicious meat, good weather resistance, and high economic value.
Mr. Ngo Duc Son in Mao Dien commune (a household raising the above chicken breed in a biosafety direction) said that on average, his family's chicken farm raises 6,000 chickens per batch and has now expanded to 7,500 chickens. In fact, biosafety measures applied in livestock farming have some advantages such as: products are more popular with consumers, and farmers also make more profit...
Not only poultry farmers, many buffalo, cow, goat and pig farmers have recently applied this solution to raise livestock stably and sustainably, minimizing damage and risks due to weather and disease. Mr. Nguyen Van Long, Nho Gia residential group, An Duong ward confided that in 2019, African swine fever was complicated, causing heavy damage to pig farming in the whole city. Many farms and households were affected by the disease, causing great damage, but his farm was still safe. Since then, his family's farm has not been affected by the disease. The secret is thanks to the application of biosafety measures, animal feed is always controlled, barns are always kept clean, and the livestock area is continuously disinfected...
According to the Head of Agricultural Extension Station No. 1 ( Hai Phong Agricultural Extension Center) Nguyen Van Binh, encouraging and orienting farmers towards biosafety livestock farming is a practical solution that brings high economic efficiency. In fact, biosafety livestock farming uses less unnecessary antibiotics and veterinary drugs, thereby limiting antibiotic residues and toxic substances, ensuring safety for consumers. In particular, with the biosafety livestock farming solution, agricultural extension officers guide farmers to plan suitable livestock farming areas, facilities, clean barns, design according to standards, ensure stocking density, control feed and veterinary drugs well, etc.

Enhanced technical support and guidance
Biosafety farming is highly effective, but many farming households have not yet paid attention to this solution. Because, in the city, there are still many small-scale, spontaneous farming households, mainly based on experience, taking advantage of surplus food sources. Therefore, farmers cannot immediately change their habits towards biosafety farming. Some farming households want to approach this method, but have difficulty implementing technical advances applied in the farming process, and livestock facilities have not received much attention and investment due to lack of capital... In fact, many farming households are still subjective, only when epidemics and damage occur do they realize the role and significance of biosafety farming.
Deputy Head of the Hai Phong Department of Fisheries, Livestock and Veterinary Medicine Bui Van Luyen said that in the context of complicated animal diseases that can easily cause great damage such as avian influenza, African swine fever, etc., applying biosafety in animal husbandry is very necessary. Farmers need to import healthy breeds of animals with clear origins; use standard feed from reputable establishments; ensure clean water sources; fully vaccinate livestock; regularly disinfect barns; apply technical advances and appropriate farming processes for each stage and record the development of livestock.
To change traditional livestock farming habits, it is necessary for local authorities, agricultural extension officers, and grassroots veterinarians to participate in propaganda and mobilization. Through training and seminars, officers support farmers in accessing biosafety livestock farming techniques and using appropriate biological drugs. For farms and households that want to expand their scale, local authorities need to create favorable conditions in terms of land and preferential credit to develop production in a sustainable direction.
