Meta is reportedly developing its own integrated search engine for chatbots to reduce its reliance on Google and Microsoft.
The Information reports that Meta has been developing web indexes for at least the past eight months. The company's goal is to integrate these indexes into Meta AI to provide chatbots with alternative search capabilities to Google Search and Microsoft Bing.

Facebook's parent company publicly disclosed its web data collection technology last summer, but only stated that the technology was intended to "train AI models or improve products" without mentioning its use in building a search platform.
The tech giant's move stems directly from its reliance on names that have previously caused Meta damage, such as Apple's User Privacy Framework (ATT).
According to one estimate, Meta stated that the iPhone's security features in 2021 could cost the company more than $10 billion in advertising revenue.
Therefore, CEO Mark Zuckerberg wants to enhance Meta's autonomy in case Google or Microsoft cut off access to website searches.
In August, Zuckerberg stated on his Threads social media account that Meta AI had over 185 million weekly active users and over 400 million monthly active users.
"That's impressive growth considering we haven't even rolled out in the UK, Brazil, or the EU yet," the Facebook founder wrote.
Meanwhile, OpenAI reports that ChatGPT has 250 million weekly active users as of the beginning of this month.
