Google and OpenAI launched new AI products on the same day.

(CLO) On December 11th, Google announced a comprehensively improved version of its AI research agent called Gemini Deep Research, the same day OpenAI officially launched its GPT-5.2 model.

The new version of Gemini Deep Research represents a strategic leap forward in Google's AI ecosystem. Built on the cutting-edge Gemini 3 Pro model, this tool is designed to solve deep research problems by synthesizing vast amounts of information and understanding complex contexts.

ChatGPT and Gemini are currently the leading AI chatbots.

The company also announced plans to integrate this AI agent into popular services such as Google Search, Google Finance, the Gemini app, and NotebookLM, aiming for a future where AI proactively performs information retrieval tasks on behalf of users.

Meanwhile, OpenAI claims its latest model has outperformed its rivals – particularly Google – on numerous benchmark tests.

According to OpenAI's assessment, GPT-5.2 leads in many benchmark tests such as SWE-Bench Pro for programming and GPQA Diamond for advanced scientific reasoning. On the GDPval test suite, this model even surpasses or matches leading experts in 70.9% of clearly defined tasks.

Google's decision to announce the release on the same day as GPT-5.2 (codename Garlic) was a carefully calculated strategic move.

While the tech world focused its attention on "Garlic," Google's move was seen as a preemptive strike to control the flow of information and prevent OpenAI from monopolizing the stage.
