Following the group stage matches held in the early hours of May 14th, the 2026 AFC U17 Championship in Saudi Arabia has determined the 8 teams that have advanced to the quarterfinals. These are Saudi Arabia, Tajikistan (Group A), Japan, China (Group B), Vietnam, South Korea (Group C), Uzbekistan, and Australia (Group D).
According to AFC regulations, the eight teams that advance from the group stage of the 2026 AFC U17 Championship will qualify for the 2026 AFC U17 World Cup.
Thus, the Vietnam U17 team and the seven aforementioned teams will represent Asia at the 2026 U17 World Cup.
Along with host nation Qatar, Asia will have nine representatives at the 2026 U17 World Cup. FIFA is expanding the tournament to 48 teams. Currently, only 38 teams have been confirmed for the 2026 U17 World Cup.
Besides the 9 Asian representatives, the remaining teams include: Costa Rica, Haiti, Panama, USA, Cuba, Honduras, Jamaica (North and Central America and the Caribbean), Mexico, Brazil, Argentina, Colombia, Ecuador, Chile, Uruguay, Venezuela (South America), New Caledonia, New Zealand, Fiji (Oceania), Spain, Belgium, Montenegro, Croatia, Denmark, France, Greece, Italy, Republic of Ireland, Romania, and Serbia (Europe).
According to the schedule, the remaining 10 teams from the African region that will participate in the 2026 U17 World Cup will be determined after the African U17 Championship concludes on June 2nd.
The draw for the group stage of the 2026 U17 World Cup is scheduled to take place on May 21st in Switzerland.
