From modern agriculture

Chau Phong commune was established by merging the three former communes of Phu Vinh, Le Chanh, and Chau Phong, with a natural area of over 49 square kilometers and a population of over 56,000 people. After the merger, the commune stabilized its organization, synchronized the socio -economic development plans of the three former localities, and identified the potential and advantages of the new locality to promote socio-economic development. Chairman of the People's Committee of Chau Phong commune, Nguyen Van Minh, stated: "The consensus of the people and the sense of responsibility of officials and civil servants are important foundations for Chau Phong to break through and move forward."

In the first six months of the year, the commune's planted area reached over 8,100 hectares, with rice accounting for 86%. The yield of the winter-spring crop reached 7.5-8 tons/ha, with a total production of over 54,200 tons. The high-quality, low-emission rice cultivation model within the framework of the 1 million hectare rice project has proven effective, opening a new direction for green and sustainable agriculture. Alongside rice cultivation, the commune has implemented 18 high-tech agricultural models, including greenhouses, net houses, automatic irrigation, and humidity sensors in fruit tree cultivation. This has resulted in reduced labor, increased productivity, and better adaptation to climate change.

Nguyen Thanh Lam, Secretary of the Chau Phong Commune Party Committee, affirmed: “We identify agriculture as the backbone, but it must be modern agriculture, linked in a chain, and connected to the market. Chau Phong is expanding the cultivation of high-quality rice, developing fruit trees that meet VietGAP standards; and at the same time, upgrading characteristic products such as tung lo mo (a type of bamboo shoot) and ornamental flowers to increase economic value.”

Not only agriculture, but the non-agricultural sector of the commune is also developing rapidly. The commune has more than 1,000 individual businesses, 35 enterprises, and 122 small-scale handicraft establishments, providing employment for nearly 2,000 workers. Industries such as brocade weaving, carpentry, and food processing bring stable income to thousands of households. In the first six months of 2025, the commune welcomed more than 1,000 tourists who came to visit, experience traditional crafts, and learn about Cham culture.

Three breakthroughs

The First Party Congress of Chau Phong Commune, for the term 2025-2030, identified three breakthroughs for development: Restructuring agricultural production towards high technology and sustainable development; developing trade, services, and tourism, increasing the proportion of the non-agricultural sector, creating jobs, and diversifying income for the people, especially the Cham ethnic group; and promoting the application of science and technology, innovation, and digital transformation in state agencies, businesses, and the private sector, improving the efficiency of governance, management, and public services.

Following the congress, the commune put the Public Administrative Service Center into operation. In a short time, it received nearly 1,400 applications, with 95% of procedures digitized and processed on time. Mr. Nguyen Van Tuan, residing in Vinh Loi 1 hamlet, shared: “I only needed to go once to get my child's birth certificate. The staff provided attentive and thorough guidance, and I am very happy.”

According to Nguyen Van Hop, Vice Chairman of the People's Committee of Chau Phong commune, the locality is promoting the application of technology in production management, healthcare, and education; encouraging businesses and households to adopt e-commerce, gradually forming a digital ecosystem to serve long-term development.

To ensure Chau Phong continues its breakthrough after the merger, the commune has set out three key tasks to successfully implement: continuing to invest in agricultural infrastructure, especially transportation and irrigation within the fields; developing bio-secure livestock farming and high-value aquaculture; and building cooperatives linking production with consumption and ecotourism. In the field of trade and services, the commune will upgrade market infrastructure and tourist piers, encourage the development of OCOP products and traditional craft villages; and create clean land for the formation of the Chau Phong industrial cluster.

Agreeing with the local solutions proposed in implementing the three strategic breakthroughs to develop Chau Phong, Comrade Lam Minh Thanh - Deputy Secretary of the Provincial Party Committee - noted: “After the merger, Chau Phong has a large scale and abundant potential. The important thing is that the locality must know how to unleash its internal strengths, leverage its advantages in high-quality agriculture, combined with services and tourism; and at the same time, take the lead in digital transformation to improve the quality of service to the people. This is the foundation for Chau Phong to develop rapidly and sustainably and become a shining example in the upstream region of the Tien River.”

In the coming period, to successfully implement the three breakthroughs, Chau Phong commune proposes solutions such as continuing administrative reforms, mobilizing resources to invest in infrastructure, improving the quality of education and training, and linking economic development with culture and society. With these solutions, Chau Phong commune will continue to be a shining example of socio-economic development in the upstream area of the Tien River.
