Children should only learn if they enjoy it.

Tony Ngo, co-founder of Everest Education and part of the VISPARK development team – a Singaporean mental math platform in Vietnam – frankly stated: "Parents should reconsider whether their children are truly passionate about it. If parents enroll their children in mental math classes simply because many other parents are doing so, it puts a lot of pressure on both the children and the parents. However, if children learn it on a trial basis and develop a love for it, passion, and confidence, which can then lead to dreams and career aspirations, then that's a great thing and should be encouraged."

Mr. Pham Chi My, a teacher specializing in preparing students for the competency assessment exam in Ho Chi Minh City, commented: "Each parent needs to consider whether they understand the training program and development roadmap outlined by the center after receiving advice. If parents understand, then they should enroll their children. Only then can they know if their child is following the roadmap during the course and whether their thinking is improving..." The teacher in Ho Chi Minh City also pointed out a fundamental mistake many parents make: they think that the higher the training cost, the better the program. But that's not the case.

Mr. Pham Chau Lich, Director of Professional Development at Mathnasium Vietnam, a US-based mental math system, stated that thinking skills are demonstrated and evaluated not only through students' test results but also through their ability to present their understanding, thinking process, and reasoning to solve problems in the most optimal way. Therefore, parents looking for an effective mental math program for their children should consider the following factors: Firstly, children should have as much interaction, exchange, discussion, question-and-answer, and presentation with the teacher as possible. Secondly, they should learn and work on exercises that require critical thinking and are conducted in a way that fosters critical thinking – not just simply calculating results.

According to Mr. Lich, the core of mathematical thinking is to help children develop their thinking skills through learning mathematics, so parents can support their children by creating additional opportunities and making learning enjoyable for them.

Ms. Bui Thi Cam Tien, a parent with children aged 6 and 8 residing in Ba Diem commune, Hoc Mon district, Ho Chi Minh City, said: "My children were introduced to basic logical thinking math in kindergarten, so I'm looking for additional logical thinking math classes for them. Currently, there are many online logical thinking math programs, and I think parents should research and let their children try them out before enrolling them officially."

Ms. Nhu, parent of 7-year-old Anh Nhien from Ho Chi Minh City, said that parents should observe, listen, and notice small changes in their children to see if they truly like and are suited to the program they are studying.
