Recently, across the country, there has been a surge in cases where individuals exploit the naivety and gullibility of students to commit fraud under the guise of "asking them to move items," posing numerous risks of violating the law.
Accordingly, the perpetrators typically approach children walking alone on the street, asking them to deliver or retrieve items, promising a payment of 200,000 to 500,000 VND upon completion. They then hand over packages, which are essentially worthless, to be transported to a certain location. However, the perpetrators require the children to leave behind valuables such as phones or wallets as collateral.
To gain trust, the perpetrator would give the students the key to the motorbike they were driving, instructing them to wait there. When the students returned, they would be paid and the pledged items returned. However, when the students arrived at the designated location to deliver the goods, they found no one there. Upon returning, the perpetrator had used a different key to unlock the motorbike and escape, stealing the property.
To proactively prevent and effectively combat this type of crime, the police force has taken the initiative to gather information, survey the area, and apply a comprehensive range of investigative measures to identify suspected individuals. In addition, they have sent documents to universities, colleges, high schools, middle schools, and elementary schools throughout the area regarding the prevention of fraudulent activities aimed at stealing property from students.
The police force advises students: Do not accept, transport, deliver, or hold goods or parcels for strangers or acquaintances met on social media without verifying their identity and the origin of the goods. Absolutely do not, for the sake of immediate material gain, fulfill requests to transport goods of unknown content or origin. Be wary of offers of "easy work, high income," or receiving or transporting goods for pay.
When detecting suspicious signs related to fraudulent activities or illegal transportation of goods, it is necessary to immediately report them to the nearest police station for guidance and handling, contributing to maintaining security and order in the area.
