On December 3rd and 4th, the auditorium of Da Nang Hospital became more special than usual. No longer a place for meetings or seminars, the space was transformed into a "cinema" where hundreds of patients, their relatives, and medical staff watched the film "Red Rain" for free.

What seemed like a small event left many viewers speechless, as they temporarily forgot their hospital worries and were immersed in a warm and humane atmosphere of history and art.

According to Thanh Nien newspaper's observations at Hall A, even though the film wasn't scheduled to start until 11 a.m., many people had arrived early to wait. Doctors and nurses took advantage of their breaks, patients in wheelchairs, elderly people using canes, and young children undergoing treatment were all eagerly brought by their parents to watch the film. The seats quickly filled up, and the familiar quiet of the hospital gave way to a lively atmosphere filled with anticipation for the movie.

Numerous patients, medical staff, and their families were able to watch the film "Red Rain" for free.

"Almost all of my comrades were killed..."

Sitting in the front row, watching every second of the "Red Rain" broadcast, Mr. Vu Van Thanh (76 years old), a former supply soldier in the 9th Regiment, 304th Division during the 81-day and 81-night battle to defend Quang Tri Citadel , repeatedly wiped away tears.

“Whenever I think about the Quang Tri Citadel battlefield, I can’t help but get emotional. My unit was almost completely wiped out, with only two survivors. Watching this film, I remember each of my fallen comrades…,” Mr. Thanh said, his voice choked with emotion.

Those around fell silent as they heard the eyewitness's story, which revealed the brutality of war and the immense sacrifices made to regain peace. And then, the audience felt even more deeply each frame of "Red Rain" on the screen.

For Mr. Huynh Ba Ky, a former teacher at Le Quy Don High School (Tam Ky Ward), the experience of watching a movie at the hospital was incredibly meaningful.

"War memories came flooding back. I'm taking care of a sick family member, and it's very stressful at times. I was so happy to hear about the free screening. I watched it to relax, and also to remember the courageous spirit of our soldiers and people," Mr. Ky confided.

According to the leaders of Da Nang Hospital, based on the reality that many patients and their relatives do not have the means to go to the cinema, and the medical staff are always busy, the Board of Directors of Da Nang Hospital decided to bring cinema into the hospital.

"The main hall was repurposed to create a space where people could temporarily set aside their grief and fully immerse themselves in the historical footage," the leader of Da Nang Hospital informed.

"Healthcare workers rarely have time to go to the cinema. Thanks to the hospital's and the Social Work Department's support, we had the opportunity to watch such an emotional film," shared Ms. Tran Thuy Dieu Thuy, head nurse of the Oncology Department, Da Nang Hospital.

According to reports, more than 200 people attended on the afternoon of December 3rd alone. Da Nang Hospital is scheduled to hold free screenings of the film "Red Rain" for patients, medical staff, and others until December 4th.
