Fernandes shone brightly, helping MU secure three points against Villa. |
Speaking on Sky Sports , legend Roy Keane expressed considerable confidence in Manchester United's chances. According to the former MU captain, the Red Devils have all the necessary elements to maintain their position in the Champions League qualification group.
"For me, Manchester United are almost certainly out of the running," Keane said. "They're not distracted by other competitions; they just need to focus entirely on the remaining matches and ensure they're fit."
Keane also suggested that Aston Villa were somewhat fatigued due to their Europa League match midweek. This left the visitors lacking sharpness, especially in the second half when Manchester United easily controlled the game.
According to the former Irish star, the key to the match lay in the creativity of captain Fernandes. "If you give players like Bruno time and space, you're bound to pay the price," Keane emphasized.
The reality on the pitch proved that point. Fernandes continued to be the heart of MU's play, contributing two assists. After the match, the Portuguese midfielder shared his joy but still put the team's best interests first.
"I'm most pleased that my contributions have helped the team. When playing in my position, assisting teammates in scoring goals and sharing moments is fantastic," Fernandes said. "We knew we had to win after the previous poor results. This was a game against an opponent with the same number of points, so creating a gap was very important. However, I still think the whole team could have played even better."
Currently, MU is firmly in third place, 3 and 6 points ahead of Aston Villa and Chelsea respectively.
