Inigo Martinez receives an exorbitant salary in Saudi Arabia. |
According to Sport , Martínez will pocket around 10 million euros per year after tax, almost double what he received at Camp Nou. The 34-year-old Basque defender also signed a one-year contract with an option to extend for another season, depending on performance. Notably, the new contract also allows him to proactively refuse a second season even if he meets the targets.
Barca will not charge a transfer fee, but may receive a small bonus, freeing up around €14 million in wage bill space – a crucial factor in completing player registrations before the start of La Liga 2025/26.
The negotiations were tense when Martinez demanded a minimum two-year contract, before Al-Nassr agreed to a flexible extension. This deal also helped coach Jorge Jesus complete his large-scale squad overhaul plan, with Ronaldo playing a central role.
This continues to be another link in the transfer relationship between Barca and Saudi Arabian football. In the summer of 2023, Franck Kessie was sold to Al-Ahli for €12.5 million, while in the middle of last season, young talent Unai Hernandez moved to Al-Ittihad for €2.5 million.
With only the contract termination procedures with Barca remaining, Inigo Martinez will head to Saudi Arabia, beginning the final chapter of his career with a "golden" contract that he could hardly refuse.
