The Gia Lai Provincial Health Department is urgently implementing measures to put this major initiative into practice as soon as possible.

Resolution No. 72-NQ/TW of the Politburo marks a major shift in thinking about community health care. Accordingly, the health sector is strongly moving towards proactive disease prevention, comprehensive health management, and continuous health care throughout the life cycle for the people.

On May 6, 2026, the Prime Minister issued Directive No. 17/CT-TTg on organizing free periodic health check-ups or screenings for the people.

Accordingly, the Prime Minister requested ministries, sectors, and localities to implement a number of key tasks to comprehensively and effectively carry out this work nationwide in accordance with Resolution No. 72-NQ/TW of the Politburo.

The Ministry of Health has also issued Decision No. 1272/QD-BYT dated May 6, 2026, approving the plan to implement the task of providing free periodic health check-ups or screenings at least once a year for the people.

Subsequently, on May 12th, the Ministry of Health issued professional guidelines, moving towards the implementation of a nationwide free health check-up program starting in 2026. The health check-up content is designed to suit specific age groups and target groups, including children under 6 years old; people aged 6 to under 18; and those aged 18 and above...

On May 9th, the Gia Lai Department of Health organized a hybrid in-person and online conference to implement the task of conducting periodic health check-ups and free screenings as directed by the Central Government and the Provincial People's Committee. The conference connected to 43 locations, including healthcare units throughout the province.

At the conference, representatives from various units focused on analyzing specific implementation plans, from developing a master plan to identifying and optimizing resources for execution. According to the Director of the Department of Health, Le Quang Hung, this is not only an important political task but also a responsibility of the health sector to the community.

"Following the principle of prioritizing disease prevention in accordance with Resolution No. 72-NQ/TW of the Politburo, regular health check-ups play a crucial role in helping people proactively prevent and care for their health most effectively," Mr. Hung emphasized.

According to the Director of the Department of Health, to effectively implement the above task, units must establish separate steering committees; identify priority target groups and priority areas; develop plans for mobilizing human resources, arranging examination points, preparing medical equipment and supplies, strengthening communication, and completing the necessary conditions to ensure the program is implemented synchronously, scientifically, and according to schedule.

Following directives from the Department of Health, healthcare units throughout the province have promptly reviewed and compiled lists of priority groups for the implementation of free periodic health check-ups or screenings in 2026.

Mr. Truong Minh Can, Director of the Chu Se Health Center, said: The unit has sent a document requesting the People's Committee and health stations of Chu Se, Bo Ngoong, Al Ba, and Ia Ko communes to coordinate in reviewing and compiling a list of priority groups including the elderly, people with disabilities, poor and near-poor households, people with meritorious services, people with chronic diseases, and people living in ethnic minority areas, mountainous areas, and difficult areas.

The review must be completed before May 18th so that the health sector can promptly compile the information and develop a plan to organize health check-ups on schedule and ensure effectiveness.

In the border commune of Ia Pnôn, preparations are also being carried out urgently. Mr. Tran Van Nam, head of the Ia Pnôn commune health station, said: “More than 90% of the local population are ethnic minorities. A list of 5,760 households in the entire commune has been compiled.”

"The implementation of free periodic health check-ups and screenings in the coming time will contribute to further improving the quality of comprehensive healthcare for the people."

Not only healthcare workers, but many residents also expressed their excitement about this major initiative. Ms. Pham Thi Kenh (Hamlet 1, An Toan Commune) shared: “Recently, local officials and healthcare workers came to each house to review and compile a list. This is a very practical gesture of concern, making people happy to know that they will soon receive free health check-ups.”

It is evident that, from the central government's major policies to the specific preparations in Gia Lai, the goal of providing healthcare for all citizens is being gradually realized in a more proactive, comprehensive, and equitable manner.

Not only does it help people access healthcare services early, but regular health check-ups and free screenings also contribute to changing perceptions in community healthcare, aiming to build a healthy and sustainably developed society in the new era.
