The vegetable area in the greenhouse of Mr. Le Van Dinh's family, Vinh Tien commune, is watered by a misting irrigation system.
Realizing that growing vegetables in greenhouses brings superior economic efficiency compared to outdoors, Mr. Le Van Dinh, Vinh Tien commune, decided to invest in building greenhouses and installing automatic irrigation systems to grow vegetables, tubers and fruits. Because they are grown in greenhouses, vegetables are not affected by weather changes such as hail, storms, low temperatures or frost. At the same time, it prevents insect attacks, limits pests and diseases, so there is no need to use pesticides. Therefore, the products are always safe for the health of growers as well as consumers.
Mr. Dinh said: "The investment cost for growing 0.2 hectares of vegetables in a greenhouse is more than 500 million VND, including the greenhouse system and the Israeli technology misting irrigation system. This irrigation technology helps vegetables absorb water better. By applying this irrigation technology, my family has saved money on hiring labor to water. At the same time, the irrigation water is not wasted but still ensures enough moisture for the vegetables to grow and develop well. Therefore, this vegetable area, after deducting costs, brings the family an income of 250 - 300 million VND/year".
On an area of 0.65 hectares of asparagus grown outdoors, Mr. Phung Van Toan, Ninh Khang commune, also applies the drip irrigation method using Israeli technology. Mr. Toan said: "Realizing that the irrigation system using Israeli technology has many outstanding advantages compared to traditional irrigation, especially when the irrigation water source is far from the production area. If drip irrigation is applied, it will save water and labor, so it is suitable for the family's farming conditions. Therefore, in 2019, I decided to invest 60 million VND to install an irrigation system using Israeli technology. Since installing this irrigation system, not only have I saved the cost of hiring workers to water the plants, but I have also avoided wasting water resources while still ensuring adequate moisture and nutrients for the asparagus to grow. Currently, 0.65 hectares of asparagus, after deducting costs, bring my family an income of hundreds of millions of VND/year".
Evaluating the advantages of using drip irrigation systems in the current climate change conditions, Mr. Trinh Viet Cuong, Head of the Department of Agriculture and Environment of Vinh Loc district, said: In the district, there are 5.9 hectares of crops grown in greenhouses and 1,200 square meters in greenhouses using drip irrigation and mist irrigation technology according to Israeli technology, concentrated in the communes of Ninh Khang, Vinh Tien, Vinh Thanh, Vinh Hung... The biggest advantage of this irrigation method is that people can adjust the amount of irrigation water according to the needs of each type of crop. At the same time, labor is saved because there is no need to hire workers to carry water or dig water canals. In addition, due to automatic irrigation, it is possible to mix easily soluble fertilizers such as nitrogen, potassium or liquid fertilizers... through a mixing tank attached to the main control valve.
According to Mr. Cuong, in addition to the solution of providing enough water and saving water, using a drip irrigation system combined with using liquid fertilizers also helps to improve the efficiency of fertilizer use. In addition, applying drip irrigation technology also prevents diseases for crops by minimizing water contact with leaves, stems and fruits of plants; allowing the rows between plants to remain dry, improving access and reducing weed growth; saving time, money, reducing labor...
