PSY, the owner of the hit song 'Gangnam Style,' is under investigation.

PSY is facing a legal investigation after South Korean police referred the case to the prosecutor's office on suspicion of violating the Medical Services Act.

South Korean singer Psy, who created a global sensation with his hit song Gangnam Style , unexpectedly became the focus of South Korean media attention after police referred his case to the prosecutor's office for consideration of allegations of violating the Medical Services Act.

According to The Korea Times on June 2nd, the Seodaemun Police Station (Seoul) has completed its investigation and transferred the case file of Psy and several related individuals to the prosecutor's office. The case stems from suspicions that the singer received medication for insomnia and anxiety disorders improperly for many years.

Information from the investigating agency indicates that Psy is suspected of having received prescriptions containing Xanax and Stilnox between 2022 and 2025. These are psychotropic drugs that are strictly regulated in South Korea due to the risk of dependence if used improperly.

According to Aju Korea Daily , police believe some prescriptions were issued through non-in-person medical examinations. Additionally, authorities are investigating the management of the singer who allegedly picked up the medication on his behalf at the medical facility.

The Korean Medical Services Act stipulates that ordinary patients must be examined by a doctor before any prescription is issued. Receiving medication on behalf of another patient or prescribing medication in cases where the necessary conditions are not met may be considered a violation of the law.

Korean media reported that a total of six people have had their cases transferred in this incident, including Psy, his manager, and related medical personnel. However, transferring the cases to the prosecutor's office does not mean that the individuals have been found guilty. The prosecution will continue to review the evidence before deciding whether or not to prosecute.

Following the announcement, P Nation's management company issued a statement explaining the situation. The company acknowledged that there had been instances of someone else receiving medication on Psy's behalf, and stated that this was an error in the treatment process.

P Nation emphasized that Psy genuinely suffered from chronic insomnia and had been receiving long-term treatment under the supervision of a specialist doctor. The company also affirmed that the singer had no intention of circumventing the law or abusing medication.
