On August 27, the DongA Ilbo reported that the Seodaemun Police Station (Seoul, South Korea) had indicted and arrested singer Psy on charges of violating South Korea's Medical Services Act.

According to reports, Psy is suspected of receiving prescriptions for the psychotropic drugs "Xanax" and "Stilnox" at a general hospital in Seoul since 2022 without undergoing a direct medical examination. Psy also did not go to the hospital in person to pick up the medication, but instead had his manager do it on his behalf.

Following this news, P Nation, Psy's management company, issued a statement explaining the incident on August 28th. In it, P Nation admitted to having someone else pick up the medication for Psy, but denied prescribing the medication improperly.

" Regarding the issue of singer Psy's sleeping pills being picked up by a third party, it is clear that this was a mistake and a failure of judgment in allowing someone else to pick up his prescription sleeping pills. We sincerely apologize."

Psy was diagnosed with a chronic sleep disorder and was taking sleeping medication prescribed by his doctor. His use of sleeping medication was always medically supervised, with the prescribed dosage strictly followed; there was absolutely no question of someone else taking the medication on his behalf. However, during that time, someone else picked up the medication for him, and the police are investigating. Once again, we apologize for causing public concern," the statement read.

For his part, Psy bowed his head and apologized to the media for letting someone else receive the medicine instead. He said, "This was clearly a mistake and careless behavior."

The doctor who prescribed the medications is also under investigation. This individual reportedly denies the allegations, claiming the treatment was administered remotely.

Xanax is a medication used to treat anxiety disorders and reduce symptoms, while Stilnox is a prescription drug effective for short-term treatment of insomnia in adults. Both are psychotropic medications and require a doctor's diagnosis and prescription.

Under South Korean law, psychotropic drugs can only be prescribed after direct consultation with a doctor, and patients typically have to obtain the medication themselves. Only in very limited circumstances, such as through immediate family members or caregivers, is it permissible to obtain the medication on their behalf.

Psy, whose real name is Park Jae Sang, was born in 1977 in Seoul, South Korea. He began his artistic career in 2001 and is known for his humorous and self-deprecating style.
