The President granted amnesty to nearly 10,000 prisoners.

The President has decided to grant amnesty to 9,950 eligible prisoners in 2026, affirming a humane policy and creating opportunities for reintegration into the community.

On the afternoon of May 30th, the Office of the President held a press conference to announce the President's decision on amnesty for 2026.

At the press conference, Mr. Can Dinh Tai, Deputy Head of the Office of the President, announced Decision No. 751/QD-CTN dated May 26, 2026, of the President on the amnesty in 2026. According to this decision, the President will grant amnesty to 9,950 prisoners currently serving sentences who meet the eligibility criteria for amnesty.

According to Mr. Can Dinh Tai, this event has profound political , legal, and humanitarian significance, demonstrating the strictness of the law and the humane traditions of the Vietnamese people. At the same time, it is also a vivid manifestation of Vietnam's socialist rule of law state, which places people at its center, resolutely protecting discipline and the rule of law while creating opportunities for those who have truly repented to reintegrate into the community and continue to contribute to society.

Over the years, the Party and the State have consistently maintained the view that all violations of the law must be dealt with severely. However, the ultimate goal of justice does not stop at punishment but also aims at educating, reforming, and restoring the good values ​​of humanity.

The practical implementation of the amnesty policy over the past period has shown many positive results. The majority of those granted amnesty have quickly stabilized their lives, actively engaged in production, complied well with the law, and become useful citizens. This further affirms the effectiveness of the work of educating and rehabilitating prisoners, while strengthening society's trust in the humanistic values ​​of Vietnamese law.

2026 is a particularly important year as the country enters the phase of implementing the Resolution of the 14th National Congress of the Communist Party of Vietnam, preparing new foundations for rapid and sustainable development, improving the quality of national governance, and further strengthening the great national unity.

In this context, the implementation of the 2026 amnesty further affirms the consistent message of the Party and the State: no one is left behind if they are truly determined to correct their mistakes and strive to improve themselves through their own will.

Under the direct leadership and guidance of the Party and State leaders and the Clemency Advisory Council, ministries, departments, localities, and detention facilities have organized and implemented the clemency process seriously, objectively, openly, transparently, and in accordance with the law. All dossiers are rigorously reviewed to ensure accuracy and fairness.

The Deputy Head of the Office of the President emphasized that amnesty is not only a joy for those who benefit from the policy and their families, but also a clear testament to the effectiveness of the Party and State's humane criminal policy; and at the same time, acknowledges the persistent efforts of the forces working in the management, education, and rehabilitation of prisoners over the past period.
