The market continued its seventh consecutive day of gains, but this was mainly driven by the three Vingroup stocks that carried the index.
On February 20th, the stock market saw continued strong gains in blue-chip stocks, helping the VN-Index maintain its positive momentum, reaching 1,230 points. In particular, the three Vingroup stocks maintained their strong upward trend, contributing to the index's rise while the market was dominated by red. However, there was also significant divergence within different stock groups.
Although the real estate and construction sector showed mixed performance, the Vingroup trio saw strong gains, with VRE rising 6.03%, VIC 3.19%, and VHM 1.32%; CTD increased 3.77%, TCD 3.75%, HDC 1.76%, HBC 5%, LCG 1.15%, and KDH 1.28%; CEO, DXG, PDR, and NLG all rose by nearly 1%. Conversely, HDG fell 1.11%, CII fell 1.29%; and BCM, TCH, VCG, HHV, DIG, SZC, and BCM all declined by nearly 1%.
The financial sector stocks, particularly securities stocks, leaned towards the green: VIX rose 2.23%, AGR 1.74%, FTS 2.61%, CTS 1.14%; SSI, VND, SHS, BSI, and ORG all increased by nearly 1%. Meanwhile, the banking sector stocks leaned towards the red:SHB fell 1.25%, VPB 1.01%, and OCB 1.27%; MBB, EIB, ACB, CTG, TPB, and SSB all decreased by nearly 1%. Some banking stocks maintained their green color: VCB rose 1.22%, HDB 1.07%; and BID and VIB increased by nearly 1%.
Besides the Vingroup trio and VCB, several other blue-chip stocks also surged, contributing to the VN-Index's rise, including SAB (up 1.21%) and GVR (up 5.22%).
At the close of trading, the VN-Index rose 5.09 points (0.42%) to 1,230.06 points, with 245 gainers, 231 losers, and 95 unchanged stocks. On the Hanoi Stock Exchange, the HNX-Index also increased 0.13 points (0.06%) to 233.5 points, with 75 gainers, 83 losers, and 82 unchanged stocks. Liquidity decreased compared to the previous day but remained high. The total trading value on the HOSE was nearly 21,200 billion VND. Foreign investors continued their net buying streak for the second consecutive session on the HOSE, with a total value of nearly 138 billion VND.
