Former striker Phan Huu Phat originated from the amateur football scene in District 5 (Ho Chi Minh City) and was coincidentally discovered by the late coach Pham Huynh Tam Lang, who brought him to Saigon Port Club to train with the youth team, and later participated in the professional talent development program.

With his impressive physique, enduring stamina, and superb individual technique, Phan Huu Phat became a renowned striker for Saigon Port FC, beloved by football fans in Ho Chi Minh City. Although his professional playing career was not long, the legendary Phan Huu Phat once struck fear into the hearts of opposing defenses whenever they faced him.

When mentioning Phan Huu Phat, his teammates are impressed by his ball control skills, sharp passing, dangerous finishing, and tenacity in ball challenges. When the Ho Chi Minh City team faced a team from the former Soviet Union in the early 1980s, striker Huu Phat provided two assists and scored one goal, helping his team draw 3-3 with the European side.

Strong and ruthless on the football field, but Mr. Phat was a warm-hearted person, always protecting and caring for his younger teammates and readily helping his colleagues. Famous football stars from Ho Chi Minh City such as Liem Thanh, Do Khai, Tran Minh Chien, Nguyen Chuong… are always proud to be his juniors.

For the past few years, former football player Phan Huu Phat has been living in near seclusion. When his heart condition worsened, he went to Ho Chi Minh City for a check-up and discovered he also had kidney failure. Not wanting to bother friends and acquaintances, Mr. Phat kept his illness a secret.

Recently, many former Ho Chi Minh City football players reported that Mr. Phan Huu Phat is seriously ill, suffering from heart, liver, and gallbladder damage, and requires dialysis. The initial cost has already reached 100 million VND, requiring the doctor to advance 50 million VND. Currently, the former Saigon Port player is receiving treatment at Hospital 115.

To support the former football star in overcoming his critical condition, famous players, former players, and artists in Ho Chi Minh City are organizing charity football matches. At 2:30 PM on September 28th, a friendly match featuring many former players from Saigon Port and Ho Chi Minh City Police teams from the 80s and 90s, such as Nguyen Van Thanh, Nguyen Hong Pham, Dang Tran Chinh, Luong Vinh Le, Chu Van Mui, Bui Sy Thanh, Nguyen Hong Hai, Bui Xuan Thuy, Cao Tung A Vy, etc., will take place at Tao Dan Stadium.

At 9:00 AM on September 29th, at Phu Nhuan Stadium, the combined team of former Ho Chi Minh City Police football players and Ho Chi Minh City Police Newspaper players competed against the Vui Khoe Club to jointly raise funds and share support for former football legend Phan Huu Phat.
