Vu Lan is not only a religious ceremony but also a cultural practice imbued with the Vietnamese tradition of "remembering the source of water when drinking", an occasion to remind each person of the gratitude for birth, gratitude to the Fatherland, gratitude to compatriots, gratitude to those who have fallen for the independence and freedom of the Fatherland.
For that reason, on June 3, the Vietnam Buddhist Sangha held a press conference to announce the program "Vu Lan - Filial Piety and Nation 2025" with many meaningful activities lasting from June to September.
Specifically, on July 27, the Organizing Committee will organize a Gratitude Journey at Truong Son Martyrs Cemetery ( Quang Tri ). The incense offering ceremony will be combined with activities to visit and give gifts to families with revolutionary contributions in Quang Tri province - Vietnamese Heroic Mothers, Heroes of the Armed Forces...
In early August 2025, the journey "Nurturing Love" will come to children in the Northwest highlands. Here, the Organizing Committee coordinates with local authorities to present books, school supplies, and scholarships for the new school year. Each gift not only has material value, but also represents a continuation of love, responsibility, and trust in the future generations of the country.

This year, for the first time, the online contest with the theme "Lighting up Filial Piety - Brightening the Nation's Soul" was organized for the young generation (10-18 years old).
From June 3 to July 31, the contest was held online in the form of writing and drawing, encouraging contestants to express their filial piety creatively and honestly. This is a bridge connecting Vu Lan tradition and contemporary breath, spreading filial piety in each person's heart through art and personal emotions.
Outstanding entries will be selected to be displayed and honored at the Vu Lan Art Exchange Night at the end of August 2025. Typical works will also be compiled, selected and printed into a book, as a beautiful mark of filial piety and patriotism of Vietnamese youth today.
Closing the series of activities throughout the Vu Lan season is the art night "Filial piety and the sacred soul of the Fatherland" scheduled to take place at the Vietnam-Soviet Friendship Cultural Palace on the evening of August 30.
The program will have the presence and emotional sharing of venerable monks and nuns on the topic "The imprint of Vietnamese Buddhist monks in the cause of national resistance and salvation" through the periods.
The program's Ambassador of Filial Piety is famous singer Ngoc Son, along with many singers such as Bao Tram, Quach Tuan Du... who will bring profound and emotional artistic performances, honoring the ethics of filial piety and the desire for peace .
The program is broadcast live on national television channels, local television channels and Buddhist television (An Vien Television), digital platforms and social networks.

According to Most Venerable, Doctor Thich Gia Quang, Vice President of the Executive Council, Head of the Central Information and Communication Department of the Vietnam Buddhist Sangha, Head of the Program Organizing Committee, in Buddhism, filial piety is not only limited to the affection between parents and children, but is also expanded into the "Fourfold Grace": Grace of parents - The root of all filial piety; Grace of the Three Jewels and Teachers - Gratitude for education and guidance; Grace of the nation and society - Remembering those who sacrificed for the country; Grace of all living beings - Gratitude for the mutual support of all species in life.
“In today’s society, we cannot only pursue material pursuits and forget about spiritual life. Filial piety must always go hand in hand with building and developing the country. That is the key to building a cultural and moral life for people,” said Venerable Thich Gia Quang.
Accordingly, this year's Vu Lan activities of the Vietnam Buddhist Sangha are aimed at young people, spreading the message that "without gratitude, people cannot have happiness and peace"./.
