At the An Giang Provincial People's Council meeting on the afternoon of May 21, delegates approved the conversion of 270 hectares of forest land to other purposes to implement the Tho Chu airport project (in the Tho Chau special economic zone).

According to the project documents, Tho Chu Airport is identified as an urgent public investment project by a decision of the Ministry of National Defense , and therefore is exempt from the procedures for investment policy approval and environmental impact assessment. The project has committed to paying for reforestation and is consistent with the An Giang Provincial Planning for the period 2021-2030.
Recently, the Ministry of Construction also approved the addition of Tho Chu Airport to the National Airport System Plan. Accordingly, Tho Chu Airport will be built to meet the 4C standard of the International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO), covering an area of over 234 hectares. By 2030, the airport is designed to serve approximately 20,000 passengers per year. By 2050, the capacity is expected to increase to about 1 million passengers per year, with a total investment of approximately 28,800 billion VND.
The An Giang Provincial People's Council also approved the policy allowing the conversion of over 2.4 hectares of special-use forest to implement the Duong Dong 2 Reservoir Project - a project serving APEC 2027 in the Phu Quoc Special Economic Zone. Approved. The plan is to convert over 3,700m² of special-use forest land to implement the Phu Quoc - North Phu Quoc 110kV power line project.
Also at the session, the An Giang Provincial People's Council elected Major General Nguyen Van Hung, Commander of the Provincial Military Command, as a member of the An Giang Provincial People's Committee for the 2026-2031 term.
