In recent days, Ho Chi Minh City has recorded many cases of people being scammed by bad guys with phone calls saying "your child is in emergency" and needs to transfer money immediately for surgery. Many parents have been "trapped" by scammers, transferring tens of millions of dong, even hundreds of millions of dong.
Responding to VTC News, Master of Psychology Le Minh Huan (founder of An Nhien Center for Applied Psychology -Education, Ho Chi Minh City) said that parents' instinct to protect and care for their children is always directed towards being able to best protect them, especially when they are not around.
This greatly contributes to parents' insecurity, anxiety, and even over-inference when they have not received enough information or the person reporting the news is unclear, using negative language, and provoking emotions.

According to Master Huan, receiving news that his child had to be taken to the emergency room and suffered a traumatic brain injury was a factor that created a climax of panic and fear in a short period of time.
Although schools and authorities have issued warnings, some parents continue to fall into the trap. Master Huan said that this shows that parents' psychology of receiving and processing information is still limited.
''Parents should stay calm and find a way to contact the person who directly teaches, cares for, or is close to the child to verify information.
Pay attention to suspicious signs of information such as the way of addressing people too different from usual, the time of reporting during lunch break, in the middle of the night or after work. Knowing by heart the school of your child, your child's class, the homeroom teacher, teachers, principal but not being able to provide clear information about their full name, specific workplace even though claiming to be a police officer is also an important factor for parents to be vigilant", emphasized Master Huan.
The question is, how do scammers get their hands on parents' and students' personal information?
Responding to VTC News, Mr. Tran Duy Hung (high-tech expert, former Head of Information Technology Department - Military Region 7), said that when obtaining customer data, the high-tech criminals in the above case will first carefully research the target customer group, expand their understanding of the customer's personal background, occupation, assets and psychology. Next, the criminals need to know the students' school schedules to choose the best possible time to set the trap.
Mr. Hung said that the information leak could come from the school's parent information management department. Or this department does not have strict regulations on managing customer information, and the software/website containing the data has poor security.
"I see many groups openly selling customer data on social networks, but authorities have not taken any drastic measures to handle it," said Mr. Hung.
According to Mr. Hung, relevant authorities need to issue strict regulations on managing customer information to avoid information leakage, as it can have many unpredictable consequences.
