People's Teacher Huynh Thi Phuong Thao - the one who sows the seeds of knowledge in "village schools".
Dedicated to the profession
Beginning her teaching career in 1992, Ms. Huynh Thi Phuong Thao (born in 1971) has dedicated herself entirely to Viet Lam Primary School in Thanh Vinh Dong commune, Chau Thanh district (formerly Long An province), now Thuan My commune, Tay Ninh province.
In the early years of the school's existence, the area was underdeveloped, transportation was difficult, and most students were children from families whose livelihoods were closely tied to the river, so education was not given much priority.
In the young teacher's memory, there were mornings when only a few students came to class, because many children had gone with their parents to work on fishing boats. Therefore, teaching literacy always went hand in hand with the task of encouraging students to come to school.
Ms. Thao shared that the happiness of teachers is sometimes very simple: just seeing students understand the lesson, their eyes shining brighter, and their love for learning increasing is enough to make them committed to the profession for life.
Driven by her passion for teaching, Ms. Thao constantly seeks ways to make lessons easier and more engaging for her students. Throughout her teaching career, she has continuously researched and created new teaching methods, especially for 4th-grade students – an age group beginning to learn many important foundational concepts.
Initiatives such as "Helping weak students solve typical math problems: Finding two numbers when the difference and ratio of those two numbers are known," "Some experiences in teaching geometric elements in grade 4," "Some experiences in class management," or "Group discussion methods and organizing games to enhance interest in learning History" have been widely applied by many teachers, contributing to improving the quality of teaching at the primary school level.

In the ongoing trend of innovation and the application of technology in teaching and learning, dedicated teachers like Ms. Thao are a force contributing to bringing technology into the classroom in a way that is both accessible and effective.
Furthermore, she actively applies technology to her teaching. Electronic lectures, mind maps, the "hands-on" method, jigsaw techniques, and more are flexibly used to make lessons more lively and engaging.
In the context of accelerating digital transformation, Ms. Thao is also one of the pioneering teachers at the school who applies technology to lesson design, utilizes digital learning resources and the electronic library to help students access more modern knowledge.
Currently, the digital transformation in education in Tay Ninh is witnessing many positive advancements. A shared database system from preschool to high school has been completed; the implementation of digital student records will reach 100% from the 2025-2026 school year. Many educational institutions have achieved a high level of digital governance, digital learning resource repositories and libraries are increasingly rich, and artificial intelligence is also being applied in lesson design, making learning more engaging. In this wave of innovation, dedicated teachers like Ms. Thao are a force contributing to bringing technology into the classroom in a way that is both accessible and effective.
A pillar of support for underprivileged students.
Mr. Nguyen Van Bay, Principal of Viet Lam Primary School, assessed that Ms. Thao is one of the school's long-serving and highly experienced teachers.
“Since graduating in 1992, she has always actively participated in the emulation movements of the education sector. In 1998, she won the 'Golden Chalk' award of the province and was sent to attend many meetings and exchanges in provinces and cities in the Mekong Delta region. In 2012, she was awarded the title of Excellent Teacher and in 2020, she was honored to receive the title of People's Teacher,” Mr. Bay shared.
Notably, in the 2020 awarding ceremony, Ms. Huynh Thi Phuong Thao was the only primary school teacher among the 18 individuals awarded the title of People's Teacher, while the remaining individuals were all university and college lecturers nationwide.

Not only is Ms. Thao highly skilled professionally, but she is also dedicated to mentoring younger colleagues. Many newly graduated teachers have received her guidance in writing innovative teaching methods, sharing lesson plans, and preparing materials for teacher excellence competitions at various levels. Thanks to her support, many teachers in the school have achieved the title of excellent teacher and outstanding employee at the grassroots level.
In addition, she pays special attention to students from disadvantaged backgrounds. For those who do not have health insurance, she is willing to deduct a portion of her salary to support them. At the beginning of the school year, she also mobilizes philanthropists to help poor students get more books and school supplies.
Tú Anh, a student in class 4/3 at Viet Lam Primary School, shared: “The teacher teaches very thoroughly and her lessons are very fun. When we don't understand the lesson, she always explains it again so that we can easily understand. She also teaches us how to make greeting cards and poems to give to our mothers and teachers.”
After 35 years dedicated to blackboards and chalk, Ms. Huynh Thi Phuong Thao still retains the simplicity and sincerity of a village school teacher. In 2025, she was again selected as an outstanding People's Teacher to participate in the 8th National Emulation Congress of the Education Sector.
This prestigious title is not only a personal honor but also a testament to the value of the unsung teachers in rural areas – those who have been, and continue to be, sowing the seeds of knowledge for the future.
