In the 2024 winter crop season, Soc Son district directed the Dong Xuan Agricultural Service Mechanization Cooperative to coordinate with the district's Agricultural Service Center to implement the "Demonstration model of new high-yield, high-quality potato varieties adapted to climate change".
The model, supported by the Agricultural Extension Center ( Hanoi Department of Agriculture and Rural Development), was implemented in Dong Xuan commune, covering an area of 10 hectares. This is also one of the pilot models for applying mechanization to agricultural production in the 2024 winter crop season.
According to Nguyen Thanh Co, head of the Dong Xuan Agricultural Service Mechanization Cooperative, when implementing the model, to ensure planting is done within the correct timeframe, the cooperative introduced mechanization into production. Machinery replaced human labor, performing tasks from tilling the soil, making furrows, fertilizing, to covering the soil.
Previously, the Dong Xuan Agricultural Service Mechanization Cooperative invested in purchasing 4 multi-purpose plows and 2 soil covering machines. Each multi-purpose plow can plow approximately 3.5 hectares of land and create furrows on 2.2 hectares per day.
"The machine for covering the land after planting has a capacity of about 3.5 hectares per day. Therefore, there's no need to worry about delays in the planting season. Compared to manual methods, using a machine will save about 10 million VND per hectare in land preparation costs," Mr. Nguyen Thanh Co shared.
According to Do Minh Tuan, Vice Chairman of the People's Committee of Soc Son District, in implementing the National Target Program for building new rural areas, Soc Son district has intensified information and communication efforts to complete land consolidation and exchange as soon as possible.
To date, the area of rice fields has become larger and wider, and the internal field roads have been largely paved with concrete. Along with the strong trend of labor migration in rural areas, the application of mechanization in agricultural production is an inevitable trend.
According to Mr. Do Minh Tuan, the synchronized application of mechanization in all stages, from land preparation, fertilization, planting, care, and harvesting, will address the labor shortage and meet the urgent seasonal demands; especially, it will reduce costs and increase efficiency in local agricultural production.
In the coming period, Soc Son district will continue to identify mechanization in agricultural production as an important driving force to promote the shift in crop structure, seed structure, and planting structure in the district. This will significantly contribute to improving the efficiency and added value of agricultural production.
