According to Nguyen Van Tuyen, Secretary of the Party Committee of Yen Thuong commune, the locality currently has more than 500 hectares of agricultural land. In recent years, the commune has promoted the restructuring of crop patterns and the application of mechanization in agricultural production, including a potato farming model supplying Orion Vina Food Company Limited. Currently, the model is proving effective, creating jobs and contributing to improving the lives of many rural workers.
“Currently, the Yen Thuong commune government is continuing to encourage people to develop sustainable agricultural models and transform the production structure, focusing on developing short-term crops linked to value chains to enhance economic value…” Mr. Tuyen added.
Speaking at the handover ceremony, Yang Jin Han, General Director of Production at Orion Vina Food Co., Ltd., expressed his delight at being able to support farmers with mechanized equipment to enhance potato production value. The use of modern equipment will bring long-term benefits to farmers. At the same time, Orion Vina will also have access to high-quality raw materials to produce safe and high-quality products for the people.
Mr. Yang Jin Han added that Orion Vina's demand for raw potatoes reaches 50,000 tons per year, and there is currently a shortage of local supply. Therefore, the company hopes that the Hanoi Department of Agriculture and Rural Development, Yen Thuong commune (Gia Lam district), and other localities will continue to pay attention and create favorable conditions for the company to expand the area of potato cultivation under contract, ensuring the supply of raw materials.
Speaking at the award ceremony, Deputy Director of the Hanoi Department of Agriculture and Rural Development Nguyen Manh Phuong said that despite being the capital city, Hanoi still has a very large agricultural area. In recent years, Hanoi has focused on transforming the crop structure in conjunction with developing value chains to increase economic value and improve farmers' incomes.
Highly appreciating the potato farming linkage model of the Institute of Agricultural Biology, Orion Vina Food Co., Ltd., and Yen Thuong commune, Mr. Nguyen Manh Phuong believes this is a sustainable direction for agricultural development, and also demonstrates the practical effectiveness of the five-party linkage in agricultural production development.
Looking ahead, Mr. Nguyen Manh Phuong suggested that the Institute of Agricultural Biology and Orion Vina continue to cooperate with units under the Hanoi Department of Agriculture and Rural Development and localities in the city to promote production linkages, and at the same time, provide additional mechanisms and policies to support equipment and mechanization to expand the area and further improve the quality of potatoes.
The potato farming model in Yen Thuong commune is a collaborative development initiative of the Institute of Agricultural Biology. According to the Director of the Institute of Agricultural Biology , Nguyen Xuan Truong , the Institute annually provides seed sources to units nationwide to develop collaborative potato production models. The potato crop rotation system has been contributing to better economic value for farmers. For potatoes, the application of mechanization effectively reduces labor costs; while it previously required 10-12 man-days of work per acre, with mechanized machinery, it only requires 1 man-day.
