The student has won two National Outstanding Student awards.

Outstandingly winning the only First Prize at the National Excellent Student Selection Exam for Ninh Binh province in the 2023-2024 academic year, Duong Thi Ngoc Minh, a 12th-grade student specializing in Geography at Luong Van Tuy High School for the Gifted, has further enriched her academic achievements with two National Excellent Student Awards (Third Prize at the National level in the 2022-2023 academic year and First Prize at the National level in Geography in the 2023-2024 academic year).

As a native of Ninh Van stone carving village (Hoa Lu district), besides being skilled in stone carving, student Duong Thi Ngoc Minh also has a passion for Geography. Since the 8th grade, Ngoc Minh has been a member of the Ninh Van Secondary School's Geography gifted student team.

Duong Thi Ngoc Minh shared: "Geography is a comprehensive science encompassing both natural and social sciences, requiring students to have knowledge and the ability to think holistically. In addition to the knowledge in textbooks and in-depth specialized topics, we need to access and update ourselves on current natural and socio- economic issues."

Despite her passion, Ngoc Minh often felt like giving up and found Geography very difficult. This was especially true when she participated in the district-level gifted student competition in 9th grade, but failed to advance, receiving only a consolation prize at the district level. She also failed in the provincial-level competition. She felt very disappointed but was determined to pursue the subject, studying and reviewing day and night. As a result, she ranked in the top 5 for the specialized Geography class at Luong Van Tuy High School for the Gifted.

With the desire to "achieve gold medals" like her seniors at the National Excellent Student Selection Exam, Ngoc Minh has been diligently preparing to join the Geography Team for the National Excellent Student Selection Exam since 11th grade.

With the support of the Department of Education and Training, the school, and her teachers, along with her own efforts, Ngoc Minh has achieved many accomplishments in provincial, regional, and national competitions: Second prize at the school level in 10th grade and a silver medal in the Northern Coastal Delta region. In 11th grade, Ngoc Minh won second prize at the school level, first prize in the provincial excellent student selection exam, third prize in the national excellent student selection exam, a silver medal in the Northern Coastal Delta region exam, and a silver medal at the Hung Vuong Summer Camp; in 12th grade, she won first prize at the provincial and national levels in geography.

For two consecutive years, Duong Thi Ngoc Minh has won two National Excellent Student Awards. For her, that result is the foundation and motivation for her to continue pursuing this subject in the future.

"Having gone through many exams, I have gained more experience and effective study methods for Geography. This subject harmonizes both natural and social aspects, so instead of forcing myself to memorize and over-study, I choose to learn the basic knowledge thoroughly, understand the issues raised, and then delve deeper and apply it when doing exercises."

Besides that, I also learned knowledge through social media and reference books. I felt the biggest difficulty was knowing how to allocate time effectively for the exam, carefully reading the questions, and creating an outline..." - Duong Thi Ngoc Minh shared.

Not only is she an excellent student, Duong Thi Ngoc Minh is also a kind and approachable girl who always shares her knowledge and experience with her friends who share her passion for Geography; she actively helps her family with household chores and always scientifically balances her studies with sports training, reducing stress in her studies to achieve the best results.

Ms. Dinh Thi Bich Ngoc, homeroom teacher of the 12th grade specialized Geography class at Luong Van Tuy High School for the Gifted, and head of the Ninh Binh province's National Geography Olympiad team for the 2023-2024 school year, said: "Duong Thi Ngoc Minh is a well-behaved student with determination and a strong will to excel in her studies. She always listens to her teachers' guidance and adjusts and improves her knowledge... Minh's special strength is her excellent natural thinking ability, which is very suitable for studying Geography. Ngoc Minh is also a good daughter; outside of school hours, she has never attended extra classes, and on afternoons when she doesn't have classes, she always helps her parents with household chores at their stone carving workshop."

With her outstanding achievements, Duong Thi Ngoc Minh has many plans for the future. Currently, she and her teammates in the National Excellent Student Team are focusing their efforts on reviewing the curriculum to achieve high results in the 2023-2024 High School Graduation Examination and confidently enter university with the aspiration of studying at the National Economics University.
