Opportunities for Van Don tourism to "take off"

Việt NamViệt Nam24/07/2024

With its synchronized and modern transportation infrastructure, including an airport, passenger port, and highways, Van Don has continued to inaugurate two high-end resorts on the main island of Cai Bau and Quan Lan Island since the beginning of the year, contributing to the completion of tourism infrastructure and opening up strong competitive opportunities for local tourism.

Tourists enjoy themselves at Wyndham Garden Sonasea Van Don Resort.

Wyndham Garden Sonasea Van Don Resort, invested in by Van Don Tourism Investment and Development Joint Stock Company (CEO Van Don), opened last April. The project features 200 international 5-star standard hotel rooms and resort villas, aiming to create a multi-service complex offering health and wellness facilities, beach sports , outdoor recreation, camping, conferences, and seminars to meet the diverse needs of domestic and international tourists.

Following that, in mid-July, the Angsana Quan Lan Ha Long Bay Hotel was also inaugurated and put into operation. This is a resort complex invested by Viglacera Van Hai Joint Stock Company, built on an area of 35 hectares, with 150 rooms meeting international 5-star standards. The complex also includes 37 villas along with a full range of amenities according to international standards…

These two projects are part of Van Don's key tourism service projects, and are also the first international 5-star hotels, promising to unlock the potential of high-quality island and coastal tourism in the Quan Lan - Minh Chau provincial-level tourist area in particular and Van Don tourism in general. Mr. Dao Van Vu, Vice Chairman of the District People's Committee, shared: "We expect these to be breakthroughs for local tourism in the coming time, overcoming previous weaknesses in tourist accommodation facilities and opening up new opportunities for Van Don tourism to take off."

The stalactites and stalagmites in Luon Cave, located in the Cai De area (Bai Tu Long National Park), are part of the sightseeing and tourism itinerary on Bai Tu Long Bay.

This is entirely plausible, as businesses like CEO Van Don will connect tourists from Phu Quoc and Nha Trang to Van Don, while Banyan Group (Singapore), a hotel management group, has been hired to manage and operate Angsana Quan Lan Hotel, which is also part of Viglacera Van Hai's strategy to attract tourists, especially international visitors, through the Angsana brand chain.

The opening of these two high-end accommodation facilities also coincides with the realization of many new tourism products in Van Don this year. According to local information, the district has so far launched 10 out of 14 new tourism products, contributing to Van Don attracting 649,000 visitors in the first six months of the year, including a 96% increase in international visitors compared to the same period last year, with tourism revenue reaching 1,195 billion VND, a 65.2% increase compared to the same period last year.

Recently, the Provincial People's Committee issued Decision No. 2119/QD-UBND dated July 19, 2024, announcing the tourist routes in Ha Long Bay and Bai Tu Long Bay. Accordingly, there are 10 routes in Bai Tu Long Bay, and 3 routes connecting Ha Long Bay and Bai Tu Long Bay. These routes pass through many destinations in Van Don, such as: Tay Hoi Island, Lazy Cat Island, Dua Island, Swan Island, Nha Tro Cave, Phat Co Cave, pearl farming area (Black Stone Island), Lao Vong fishing village, Tra Ngo Lon Island, Cai De area, Mang Ha overnight anchorage, Cai Lim beach, Tra Than Bay, Ban Sen, Thang Loi, Ngoc Vung, Quan Lan, Minh Chau islands… This is a welcome sign, providing a basis for businesses and localities, including Van Don, to effectively implement and exploit the advantages of the Bai Tu Long Bay region.

Minh Chau is a destination on the route connecting Ha Long Bay and Bai Tu Long Bay. The photo was taken at Chuong Nep beach, Minh Chau island commune.

Currently, Viet Thuan Transport Co., Ltd. has pioneered the Grand Pioneers II cruise ship, connecting tourism between Ha Long Bay and Bai Tu Long Bay on the "Heritage Journey." Highly appreciating the natural potential as well as the cultural and historical values of Bai Tu Long Bay, Mr. Luong The Tuyen, Deputy Director of the company, shared: "Adjacent to Ha Long Bay is Bai Tu Long Bay, with enormous potential that has not been fully exploited until now. Therefore, Viet Thuan has decided to pioneer expanding the area, not only exploiting the Ha Long Bay heritage site but also developing tourism connecting these two bays in Quang Ninh . We expect this to be not just a new product but to become a trend in high-end resort tourism for customers in the future."

Of course, the aforementioned itineraries serve as a basis for developing tourist destinations and tourism products in Van Don. To operate these attractions and services, all conditions stipulated by current regulations must be met. The itineraries can only be operated when safety is ensured in accordance with the law.

In the aforementioned decision, the Provincial People's Committee also assigned the Department of Transport to review, inspect, and announce the eligibility for operation of routes for inland waterway vessels; to preside over and coordinate the submission to the competent authority for approval of the Plan for developing the fleet of tourist boats in Ha Long Bay and Bai Tu Long Bay according to the criteria of high quality, luxury, uniqueness, ensuring quality and safety (not focusing on quantity), which specifically defines the criteria for quality and quantity of vessels operating in the Bai Tu Long Bay area…
