A new and attractive destination.
Bai Tu Long Bay is famous for its magnificent system of islands and caves, and its beautiful and pristine beaches. Bai Tu Long National Park, located within the Bai Tu Long Bay complex, was recognized as an ASEAN Heritage Park by the ASEAN Biodiversity Centre in 2017. In particular, the scenic value of Bai Tu Long Bay makes it suitable for year-round tourism development with many attractive tourism activities, such as: sightseeing, swimming, boating, parasailing, recreational fishing, and various forms of ecotourism.
Bai Tu Long Bay differs from Ha Long Bay because it has a system of inhabited islands where tourists can experience the local way of life; some islands have beautiful beaches, developed coral reefs, and have the potential to be developed into nature reserves and ecological parks to serve tourism and resort development.
On July 19, 2024, the People's Committee of Quang Ninh province issued Decision No. 2119/QD-UBND announcing the tour routes in Ha Long Bay and Bai Tu Long Bay. This included announcing 8 tour routes in Ha Long Bay, 10 routes in Bai Tu Long Bay, and 3 routes connecting Ha Long Bay and Bai Tu Long Bay.
At the end of March, Quang Ninh officially launched new sightseeing and tourism routes in Bai Tu Long Bay, including: the route from Ao Tien Port - Tay Hoi Island - Lucky Cat Island (Lazy Cat Island) - Ban Sen Island - Nha Tro Cave; and the route from Ao Tien Port - Phat Co Cave - pearl farming area (Black Stone Island) - Lao Vong Canal - Dua Island (Du Island) - Minh Chau Island. The itineraries include: Ao Tien Port - Hon Xep Park; Ao Tien Port - Lao Vong fishing village - Tra Ngo Island - Thien Nga Island; Ao Tien Port - Cai De area - Mang Ha overnight anchorage; Ao Tien Port - Tra Than Bay (Tra Ngo Island) - Cai Lim beach - Mang Ha overnight anchorage - Cai De area.
Each trip offers unique experiences, from admiring magnificent natural landscapes to learning about the cultural life of local fishermen. Visitors can not only explore and relax at famous destinations like Quan Lan and Minh Chau islands, but also discover new and attractive destinations such as Phat Co Island, home to Phat Co Cave – one of the largest caves in Bai Tu Long Bay. Visitors can experience kayaking, explore floating farms cultivating seaweed, or relax on the island's pristine and beautiful beaches.
The pearl farming area in the Black Rock Island region is also an interesting stop for tourists to learn about the pearl farming process. The pearls here are not only beautiful in color and large in size, but are also considered to be top-grade, of the highest quality in the world. As the boat passes by Crow Island, Lao Vong Canal, and Chopstick Island, tourists can sit on the boat to admire the scenery and take souvenir photos…
Taking Bai Tu Long tourism to new heights.
Along with its beautiful natural landscape, Bai Tu Long Bay possesses all the opportunities for tourism development due to its extremely favorable location, situated approximately 100km from the Mong Cai International Border Gate and adjacent to the World Natural Heritage site of Ha Long Bay; it has a convenient transportation system by road, sea, and air, and serves as a gateway connecting to Co To Island and the islands of Da Dung (Dam Ha), Cai Chien (Hai Ha), Vinh Trung, Vinh Thuc, and Tra Co (Mong Cai)... Accommodation facilities, including large resort complexes, have already been established in Van Don such as Wyndham Sonasea Van Don and Angsana Quan Lan; and soon, the Ao Tien resort complex with over 1,000 rooms will be added.
Immediately after the official launch of the Bai Tu Long Bay tour routes, tourist boats began operating daily at the Ao Tien International Passenger Port. Notably, Quang Ninh province currently does not charge entrance fees for the Bai Tu Long Bay tours; tourists only have to pay for the boat ticket and port service fees. New tourist boats will be added during the upcoming April 30th - May 1st holiday to meet the peak demand for sightseeing and relaxation.
With the goal of expanding tourism space and making Bai Tu Long Bay a new and attractive destination for tourists, the province's departments, units, and businesses are striving to prepare all necessary conditions and create a foundation for the sustainable development of tourism in Bai Tu Long Bay. Accordingly, the province will also supplement the necessary conditions to ensure the safety of inland waterways in the Bai Tu Long Bay area; pre-arrange one overnight mooring point in Bai Tu Long Bay; and supplement planning to develop the system of ports, wharves, and mooring points in the Bai Tu Long Bay area. At the same time, it will develop investment plans to upgrade ports, wharves, and mooring points in the Bai Tu Long Bay area; and add types of tourism-serving vessels suitable for connecting Ha Long Bay and Bai Tu Long Bay into the plan for developing the fleet in Ha Long Bay and Bai Tu Long Bay. It is expected that by 2025, the overnight mooring points will be completed to develop overnight cruise ship products in Bai Tu Long Bay.
Simultaneously, localities, units, and businesses are also urgently developing new tourism products in the Ha Long Bay and Bai Tu Long Bay areas (including coastal areas and surrounding regions) to form a chain of interconnected tourism products.
Specifically: Cam Pha City is actively surveying tours and routes, investing in mooring points in Bai Tu Long Bay, and expanding marine aquaculture experiences linked to tourism development. The Bai Tu Long National Park Management Board is also developing tourism products associated with nature conservation. Ngoc Rong Cave Co., Ltd. and Vung Duc Tourism Co., Ltd. have proposed organizing an art performance program combined with culinary experiences at Vung Duc Cave (Cam Pha); operating a boat tour route from Cam Pha to Bai Tu Long Bay and connecting Ha Long Bay and Bai Tu Long Bay. Vietnam Sightseeing Joint Stock Company is researching the development of double-decker buses and coffee buses from Bai Chay - Hon Gai to Vung Duc (Cam Pha). Viet Thuan Co., Ltd. is finalizing tourism products connecting Ha Long Bay and Bai Tu Long Bay. Mai Quyen Co., Ltd. and CEO Van Don Company are researching the development of sightseeing and accommodation boats…
Bai Tu Long Bay is poised for a golden opportunity to break through and become an attractive tourist destination and a new tourism symbol of Quang Ninh. With well-planned development, comprehensive investment, and unique tourism products, a solid foundation will be laid for the sustainable development of Bai Tu Long Bay tourism, contributing to affirming Quang Ninh's position on the world tourism map.
