Opportunities to export processed chicken meat to South Korea.

(Dong Nai) - On April 22, Vietnam and South Korea announced the opening of their markets to processed chicken products, a new step in bilateral agricultural cooperation. This also opens up more opportunities for Vietnamese businesses to participate more deeply in the food supply chain in markets with high standards.

Within the framework of the working program between the Vietnamese Ministry of Agriculture and Environment and the Korean Ministry of Agriculture, Food and Rural Development, Minister Trinh Viet Hung and Minister Song Miryung signed a Memorandum of Cooperation in the field of veterinary medicine and animal quarantine, thereby officially announcing the opening of the market for processed chicken products between the two countries.

This result is not only significant commercially, but also demonstrates that both sides are gradually strengthening coordination mechanisms in quarantine, quality control, and improving technical requirements for products of animal origin. In the context of increasingly stringent standards in importing markets, establishing a clear cooperation framework between the regulatory agencies of the two countries is considered a crucial foundation for expanding opportunities for businesses.

Speaking at the event, Minister of Agriculture and Environment Trinh Viet Hung said: In the initial phase, each country will have two enterprises allowed to export processed chicken meat. According to the Minister, this is the starting point to further expand the scale in the future, creating more opportunities for more businesses to meet technical requirements, contributing to increasing the export value of Vietnam's livestock and food processing industry.

On the Korean side, Minister Song Miryung assessed this result as the fruit of a long process of professional coordination and negotiations between the relevant agencies of the two countries. Both sides will continue to maintain technical exchanges in the field of animal quarantine to further facilitate market opening for other products in the future.

From a business perspective, Mr. Pawalit Ua-Amornwanit, General Director of CP Vietnam Livestock Corporation (CP Vietnam), commented: The fact that the South Korean market is giving opportunities to processed chicken products from Vietnam is a positive sign for the entire industry. According to him, this is a result of the international integration process and reflects the improvement in production and processing capabilities and the ability of Vietnamese businesses to meet standards.

Representatives from CP Vietnam expressed their appreciation to the Ministry of Agriculture and Environment, especially specialized agencies such as the Department of Animal Husbandry and Veterinary Medicine, for their support in assisting the company with technical requirements, completing documentation, and fulfilling conditions related to quarantine, food safety, and market access. Mr. Pawalit Ua-Amornwanit stated that the increased access of Vietnamese processed chicken products to the Korean market will contribute to enhancing the position of Vietnam's livestock and food processing industry in the international market.

As a large-scale enterprise in the livestock and food sector, CP Vietnam currently operates the CPV Food Binh Phuoc complex for raising and processing chickens for export. The project, with a total investment of approximately US$250 million, is developed as an integrated Feed-Farm-Food chain, encompassing a feed mill, an egg hatchery, a farm system, a slaughterhouse, and a processing plant. This model helps the company increase its ability to comprehensively control everything from input to output, thereby improving traceability, disease control, and ensuring food safety standards.

Building upon that integrated production platform, CPV Food Binh Phuoc has supplied processed chicken products to several markets, including Japan, Hong Kong, Singapore, Russia, and Mongolia. Experience in meeting the requirements of international markets is considered a key advantage for the company to further improve its production and processing capabilities and adapt to increasingly stringent import standards.

According to Mr. Pawalit Ua-Amornwanit, the business community expects to continue working alongside regulatory agencies in improving product quality and strictly adhering to quarantine regulations and technical standards of importing markets. This is also a necessary condition for Vietnam's livestock and food processing industry to gradually expand its market, increase export value, and develop in a more sustainable direction.

South Korea's opening of its market to processed chicken from Vietnam is expected to provide further impetus for domestic businesses to invest more heavily in deep processing, standardize production processes, and enhance competitiveness. In the long term, with closer coordination between regulatory agencies and businesses, the Vietnamese poultry industry will have more opportunities to participate more deeply in the global food value chain.
