Should you drink orange juice every day?

VTC NewsVTC News10/12/2024

According to physician Bui Dac Sang of the Hanoi Traditional Medicine Association, oranges contain many minerals, vitamins, antioxidants, flavonoids, and plant compounds. Below are the amazing benefits of orange juice, which is also why healthy people should consume this drink daily to improve their health.

The benefits of drinking orange juice daily

Improve immunity

Because orange juice is rich in vitamin C, drinking it helps reduce the risk of seasonal colds and improves immune system function.

Furthermore, the vitamin C in orange juice fights free radicals, thus slowing down the aging process and helping the body better absorb certain minerals such as iron and calcium. Drinking orange juice is also a way to supplement collagen in the body to repair cell damage and promote the growth of new tissue.

Detoxify

Drinking orange juice properly can help improve kidney function and reduce pain caused by kidney stones. Furthermore, the citric acid and citrate in orange juice reduce the risk of kidney stone formation and development.

Orange juice is characterized by its high alkalinity. Therefore, it can dissolve acids that form waste products in the kidneys and cleanse the blood. This is why orange juice is called a natural detoxifier for the liver, kidneys, and digestive tract.

Improve digestive system function

If you drink orange juice at the right time, the active ingredients in this drink will stabilize the digestive process, minimize gastric juices and excess acid in the stomach. This helps reduce stomach ulcers.

People who frequently experience diarrhea or constipation can drink orange juice to improve bowel function. The alkaline and acidic properties of orange juice will also help to naturally cleanse the digestive system.

Increase blood circulation

The high folate content in orange juice is involved in DNA formation, protecting cells and promoting healthy growth. It's also a mineral that helps fight free radicals and prevent cell damage.

Drinking orange juice correctly helps the blood and many other organs function more smoothly, stimulates the formation of new red blood cells, and reduces the oxidation process that occurs in cells.

Things to note when drinking orange juice

You should drink orange juice 1-2 hours after breakfast or lunch. It's important to drink the juice immediately after squeezing, as leaving it for too long will cause a loss of nutrients, especially vitamin C.

Adults should only drink a maximum of 200ml of water per day because it contains 60mg of vitamin C (equivalent to 100% of the daily vitamin C requirement for adults). Exceeding this amount can lead to vitamin C excess, which is not good for the body in the long run.

People with pancreatitis, duodenal ulcers, or gastric ulcers should limit their consumption of orange juice to avoid the accumulation of acids and organic substances that increase stomach acid, leading to heartburn and worsening ulcers.

Furthermore, if orange juice is not consumed properly, the sugar and acid content can easily lead to diabetes, especially since many people add sugar to sour oranges to make them more palatable. This practice also carries the risk of joint pain and arthritis.
