| Citizen identification cards issued before July 1, 2024, are valid until the expiration date printed on the card. |
On the morning of November 27th, the National Assembly passed the Law on Citizen Identification, which will take effect from July 1st, 2024. With the name change from the Law on Citizen Identification (CCCD) to the Law on Identity Cards, the CCCD card will also have a new name: Identity Card.
Article 46 of the Law on Identity Cards stipulates the transitional provisions as follows: Citizen Identity Cards issued before the effective date of this Law (July 1, 2024) remain valid until the expiration date printed on the card. Citizens may exchange their old cards for new identity cards if needed.
If your ID card is still valid, you can use it until December 31, 2024.
Legal documents that have been issued using information from the old ID card or citizen identification card remain valid; state agencies are not allowed to request citizens to change or adjust information from the old ID card or citizen identification card in the issued documents.
Citizen Identification Cards (CCCD) and National Identity Cards (CMND) that expired between January 15, 2024 and before June 30, 2024 will continue to be valid until June 30, 2024.
Regulations on the use of citizen identification cards and national identity cards in legal documents issued before the effective date of this law shall be applied as to identity cards issued under the provisions of this law.
