Vietnamese chess team won the first silver medal at ASIAD 19.
After an impressive qualifying round with 03 wins, 01 loss and 01 draw to finish second, the Vietnamese Chess team entered the final match of the mixed team event against the host athletes of China.
Facing stronger opponents, Vietnamese athletes including Lai Ly Huynh, Nguyen Thanh Bao and Nguyen Hoang Yen played very hard but in the end still had to accept defeat against Chinese athletes Zhao Xinxin, Wang Yang, Wang Linna and accepted the silver medal.
The silver medal of the Vietnamese Chess team in the mixed team event is a commendable achievement as it is the only medal of the Vietnamese Sports Delegation on the competition day of October 1. Previously, the Weightlifting and Athletics events could not bring home medals despite competing in the final events. On September 30, our athletes also did not compete as expected when they did not win any medals.
Thus, by the end of October 1, the Vietnamese Sports Delegation had won 1 Gold Medal, 3 Silver Medals and 12 Bronze Medals at the 19th ASIAD this year.
