In 2024, Vietnam achieved a 99% vaccination rate for the first dose of the diphtheria, tetanus, and pertussis vaccine (this rate was 80% in 2023). The number of children who had not received any vaccine doses, also known as the "zero-dose" group, decreased from 274,000 in 2023 to 13,000 in 2024. Nearly 1.3 million children were vaccinated during the 2024-2025 measles vaccination campaign.

Vietnam also recorded a 32% increase in the rate of children receiving all three doses of the diphtheria, tetanus, and pertussis vaccine, reaching 97% in 2024, up from 65% the previous year. In addition, the rate of receiving the first dose of the measles vaccine also increased from 82% in 2023 to 98% in 2024.
However, the WHO also highlighted some challenges in immunization efforts in Vietnam: 40,000 children have not yet received the third dose of the diphtheria, tetanus, and pertussis vaccine; and 27,000 children have not yet received the first dose of the measles vaccine.
Many factors contribute to children not being vaccinated or not receiving all the necessary doses, including geographical barriers, limited access to services in remote areas, or areas lacking essential services.
To address these challenges, according to the WHO, governments should encourage private healthcare services to participate in routine immunization programs (government-provided vaccines, free of charge as part of expanded immunization programs). Local authorities need support to implement appropriate immunization strategies to reach the most vulnerable populations.
